Bowel cancer waits for no one.

An important reminder that this quick and simple test could save your life.

Bowel cancer is still Australia’s second biggest cancer killer, taking more lives than breast, prostate or skin cancer.

But over 90% of cases can be successfully treated if found early.

If you’re aged 45-74, join the millions who have done the test. It's free and easy to do at home.

Research shows that many people in the LGBTQIA+ community still face barriers to accessing inclusive, respectful, and informed healthcare.

We believe everyone should have access to the same level of care and information when dealing with a cancer diagnosis, no matter their gender or sexual identity.

This Reconciliation Week, Cancer Council Australia is highlighting the important work being done around the country – both to bridge the cervical cancer gap and to advocate for appropriate public health intervention.

When it comes to cervical cancer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are projected to achieve cervical cancer elimination only by 2047… more than two decades later than for Australian women overall.* That is one of the reasons why we continue to advocate for equitable access to cancer prevention, early detection and screening programs, to help ensure better or fairer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Cancer Council is all in for reconciliation in cancer care, as we seek to close the gap together.

World No To***co Day is held annually on May 31 to raise awareness of the dangers of to***co use, and highlight the need for stronger regulations to protect people from the harms of smoking.

This year the theme focuses on ‘unmasking the appeal’, exposing how the to***co and ni****ne industry continues to reinvent and repackage its products to hook children and adolescents.

As Australians we should be proud to be a world-leader in to***co control and remain focused on our national commitment to reduce the daily smoking prevalence to less than 5% by 2030.

We know illicit to***co is a serious issue. With an estimated 40,000 to***co retailers nationwide, Australia now has more to***co shops than supermarkets.

Investment in campaigns to discourage smoking has declined substantially, and continued investment is required to generate and sustain population-level smoking reductions.

We also recognise that, according to AIHW data, 2 in 3 people who smoke, want to quit smoking.

If you or a loved one is seeking support to quit, please head to our website or speak to your local GP.

The inhalation of second-hand smoke from the tip of a cigarette is known as ‘side-stream smoke’ and is a recognised cancer-causing agent.

Side-stream smoke is made at lower temperatures than mainstream smoke. This means it contains a higher amount of some toxins compared to the smoke being inhaled by the smoker. Some of the toxins inhaled in second-hand smoke are smaller than those being inhaled by the smoker, so the smoke can go deeper into the lungs, which makes it more toxic.

There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke. It has been shown to be harmful, even at low levels, including in outdoor areas.

Employers have clear legal obligations to ensure that indoor and enclosed workplaces are free from harmful second-hand smoke.

If you’ve done the free bowel screening test, your story could help someone else take that first step - and even save their life.

We’re looking to hear about your experience with bowel screening.

Currently, only 41.7% of Australians do the bowel Screening test. However, if we can increase and sustain participation at 60%, we could save 84,000 lives by 2040.

Share your bowel screening story (by clicking the link below) to help other people take the test, and feel free to share this link with your friends too.

Our volunteers do an amazing job of supporting people living with cancer. Week in, week out, they give of their time and energy to help wherever help is needed. Whether it’s driving patients to treatments, helping at our Christmas gift wrapping stalls, or volunteering in our retail stores, they turn up with warmth and enthusiasm.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to thank our volunteers for all they do to ease the burden for people living with cancer.

Australia has some of the lowest smoking rates in the world - the result of decades of evidence-based policies that have saved lives. But this progress is under threat.

Today, Cancer Council and organisations from across Australia’s public health sector have come together to publish an open letter to all Australians.

Big to***co is pushing proposals to reduce the cost of to***co products, creating a pathway for more Australians to become addicted to ni****ne.

Here are some ways we can protect the progress we've made:
👉uphold strict transparency and protections against to***co industry interference
👉maintain proven measures like to***co taxation, advertising restrictions and public education campaigns
👉strengthen action on illicit to***co through enforcement and support to help people quit - not by making to***co cheaper
👉 expose industry tactics and hold decision-makers accountable.

As we approach ***coDay, we’re ‘Unmasking Big To***co’ and advocating for stronger protections against to***co-industry influence, to help protect Australians from the harms of to***co.

Read our open letter, signed together with 14 organisations, on why protecting these policies matters. https://brnw.ch/21x2zv3

The theme of 2026 : “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives” highlights the need to ensure nurses have the authority, resources, and working conditions necessary to deliver their life-saving care.

Nurses are vital for health systems around the world to function. Today, we acknowledge the essential work that oncology nurses do in providing comprehensive care to people diagnosed with cancer.

A cancer diagnosis is never easy, but oncology nurses offer care and support throughout the treatment journey.

To oncology nurses around the world: thank you for the important work you do.

Tag a nurse you'd like to share your appreciation with today💛💐
