The SDA welcomes the NSW Government decision to refer the Town Hall Square project to the Independent Planning Commission.

This is an important step closer to saving our members jobs. Thanks
to all members and delegates who have supported the SDA campaign to save our member jobs.

Hopefully this will be an opportunity for the City of Sydney to rethink its priorities and perhaps redirect money towards addressing some of the challenges facing people who live and work in the city. Issues like affordable housing or tackling homelessness.

SDA members rallied at Town Hall with a simple message: don't demolish the Town Hall shops and hundreds of jobs to build a paved patio square for Town Hall.

Spend the money on city services, help for the homeless or affordable homes for essential workers.

Sydney is NSW's city, not the Council's plaything. We want the NSW Government to step in and take this decision out of the City of Sydney's hands.

Workplace Protection Orders are set to be legislated in NSW, helping keep abusive and violent customers out of workplaces.

It’s a major step forward for worker safety and a significant victory for SDA members who have campaigned for stronger protections.
