The SDA has reached a proposed settlement in its national class action against ALDI over what the SDA contended is unpaid work performed before and after rostered shifts.

Including amounts previously paid by ALDI to some ALDI workers, the total value of the outcome is expected to be more than $50 million to approximately 32,000 current and former ALDI workers, subject to final calculations and approval by the Federal Court.

Eligible workers will shortly be sent by email or possibly by mail a Court approved Group Member Notice (GM Notice) that outlines their rights as class members and explains what the class action was about. A copy is also available herehttps://www.sda.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/260717-GM-Notice-as-ordered-on-16-July-2026-2.pdf

Please read the GM Notice carefully.

The Reject Shop is rushing a proposed new Enterprise Agreement to a vote. VOTE NO!

There are still several important issues that remain unresolved and the SDA is committed to resolving these at the bargaining table.

By voting NO, you are sending a clear message that the current proposal does not go far enough and that meaningful negotiations must continue.

SDA members are campaigning to stop Mayor Clover Moore and the Sydney Council from demolishing Woolworths Town Hall and other historic buildings with up to 1,000 jobs at risk. On the weekend we took the argument inside Town Hall at the ALP Conference to get support to stop the demolition of these buildings and jobs. The 4.75% pay increase that the SDA and other unions won in this years Annual Wage Review takes effect today! Check your payslip from the first full pay period on or after today to make sure you've been properly paid the increase.

Pay rises don't just happen or fall from the sky. Every year, the SDA and the Australian union movement make a strong case to the Fair Work Commission to lift wages. On the other side, employer lobby groups argue to keep increases as low as possible.

This pay rise didn't come from the Government, and it didn't happen automatically. It was won because unions showed up and fought for it.

Today SDA members from the Town Hall shops joined SDA Secretary Bernie Smith calling on the Sydney City Council and NSW Government to stop the planned demolition of Woolies Town Hall to make a decorative square outside Town Hall.

This would lead to up to 1,000 job losses from all the businesses affected.

Bernie Smith said “The City of Sydney is spending hundreds of millions, to slash hundreds of jobs and removing a critical resource used by thousands of Sydneysiders. Instead of spending $200m demolishing shops and destroying jobs for a pretty paved patio outside Town Hall, we call on council and the NSW government to instead invest that money in the community and stand up for jobs, housing and services for the people of Sydney.”

This week, SDA NSW Delegates Genita and Misha, together with other SDA Delegates from around Australia went to Canberra to meet with the Prime Minister and other politicians. They welcomed the Governments submission to the Annual Wage Review and discussed super for workers under the age of 18.

It was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of the SDA's Adult Age = Adult Wage campaign that would see 18 year old workers recognised and paid as adults.

EG Fuel can do better! Workers at EG Fuel should vote NO once again on the proposed EG Fuel Agreement.

Don't worry, if you vote NO, you will still receive the 4.75% wage increase as a result of the FWC Annual Wage Review decision.

Voting NO will send a clear signal to EG Fuel that you deserve more than the bare minimum when it comes to pay and conditions.
