🌿 World Ranger Day 2026 🌿

Today, 31 July, Gayini River Rangers and Nari Nari Tribal Council Ranger team proudly join communities around the world in recognising World Ranger Day.

The 2026 theme is "Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet," highlighting work amid climate extremes and complex environmental challenges.

Rangers care for Country, preserve cultural & heritage, care for our rivers, creeks, wetlands, protect biodiversity, support threatened species, undertake fire and land management, and learn from knowledge that has been passed down through countless generations.

Such an amazing day celebrating with Hay Public School! Our Ranger teams, members, and staff proudly shared their knowledge, culture, and time to help create lasting memories for the students of Hay while celebrating 50 Years of Deadly.

We think it’s safe to say the children went home with full tummies and big smiles on their faces.

A huge thank you to Hay Public School for having us and for being part of such a special celebration. We look forward to many more opportunities to come together, share culture, and create lasting memories.

A big thank you to Nurse Michelle from Medibank for providing skin and health checks for our staff and members.
These checks included:
☀️ Skin examinations to identify any suspicious spots or changes
❤️ Blood pressure checks
💙 General health and wellbeing assessments

Taking a few minutes for a health check today can make a big difference tomorrow. Early detection and prevention are key to staying healthy.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to get checked, and to the Medibank team for helping us prioritise the health and wellbeing of our community

The theme for the 2026 National NAIDOC Week is "50 Years of Deadly".

Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. A tribute to the people who built this movement, the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.
NAIDOC has always been more than a week — it’s a platform, a protest, a celebration, and a statement of survival.

* Celebrates Excellence: In First Nations culture, "deadly" does not mean dangerous, but rather means excellent, brilliant, and something to be proud of

* Honors the Movement: It celebrates the Elders, artists, activists, and organizers who have built and sustained the movement over the last five decades.

* Looks to the Future: It is a moment to recognize five decades of survival, pride, and resistance while building momentum for the next 50 years.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about, participate in, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and achievements.

We are very excited to announce the Birrang Driver Licence Program is back in Hay!!

🚗 Free 6 Week Driver access program 🚗

👉🏽The first sign up day will be this Thursday 21st May @ the HAY LALC/Nari office, 412 Belmore street

⏰ 9am -1pm

This program will bring a qualified driving instructor who will develop a lesson plan and structure lessons specifically for each individual. They will ensure that each student is developing the skills required for the learner to become a safe and confident driver.

👉🏽Please take this opportunity to help you gain your L and P plates and become a safer driver on the road.

This opportunity is open to the whole community.
