🌳 It's time to talk preparation for this year's planting! 🌳

➨ Fencing - to exclude stock, otherwise secure heavy duty tree guards
➨ Water - install watering lines wherever possible
➨ W**d control - apply knockdown & residual herbicide one month prior to planting but by end of July
➨ Pest control - control rabbits & hares to avoid the need for expensive tree guards and re-planting

Hay Plains Landcare volunteers grow native tree and shrub seedlings from locally collected endemic native seed at the Hay Landcare Nursery🌱

These seedlings are the most suitable for planting in our region as they are genetically adapted to our climate 🌳

🫠 Today's heat didn't deter lots of people from coming in & out of Landcare Alive this morning 😎

🧵 We chilled in the shade and plaited wool trees in hanging loops. It was a bit fiddley but a nice time to chat and absorb the excitement of the lead up to Christmas.

🐦 Our members Geoff & Ted have been busy revamping the Community Garden bird netting into a much more user-friendly structure. It's great to watch this feature grow, literally!

🌱 Landcare Alive will pause now for two weeks and resume on Thursday 8th January with a variety of seasonal nursery activities.

🎄 Have a wonderful festive season!!

🎄🌱 Last Landcare Alive for 2025! 🌱🎄

Next Thursday 18th December will be our last Landcare Alive for the year, and is also our Special Monthly Activity: Wool Nature Craft.

Along with regular nursery activities we will try our hand at plaiting or twisting a nature-inspired hanging wool tree. All materials supplied and all welcome.

Landcare Alive will then pause for Christmas & New Years before recommencing on Thursday 8th January.

A busy week with Landcare! 📜🌳🎅🌱

Hay's Historic Stone Pine has been officially recognised with the unveiling of an information panel in Apex Park, next to the Hay Landcare Nursery. Thank you to Don Deluca & John Matthews for detailing the history and significance of the huge specimen!

We have been busy at Landcare Alive thinning our propagated seedlings, clearing fallen tree limbs and possum-proofing the greenhouse... plus enjoying a rewarding Bush Tucker morning tea😄. Landcare Alive continues every Thursday except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

It was lovely to host colleagues from Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc in Hay for surveying training and Christmas Celebrations. It was great for them to finally check out the local Hay Landcare Nursery!

Landcare was also at the Riverina Local Land Services Roadshow Breakfast at the Waradgery Club. It was good to highlight both our joint partnerships and distinct organisation differences.

🎨 Watercolour Creations at Landcare Alive 🎨

Last Thursday was a hive of activity at the Hay Plains Landcare Nursery for their Special Monthly Activity!

We delighted in watching our watercolours mix and blend into colourful nature-inspired gift cards, bookmarks & paintings.

December’s Landcare Alive Special Monthly Activity: Wool Nature Craft on the 18th will round out the year’s wellbeing workshops. All are welcome 9-11am, next to the Hay Gaol Museum.
