One of the best things about Scouting is seeing young people discover that they can make a difference.

Whether it's helping a friend, supporting a community event, volunteering their time, or simply showing kindness, Scouts learn that even small actions can have a big impact.

Research shows that Scouts are more likely to help their communities, and that's a reflection of the values woven through the Scout Promise and everything we do.

At Morningside Scouts we help young people develop confidence, leadership, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

🎉 At Scouts last Thursday, our Joeys enjoyed a session full of teamwork, communication and lots of fun! 🎉

One of the highlights was a life-sized Hungry Hippos activity, where one Joey rode on a wheeled board while their teammates guided them around to collect balls with a bucket. This fast-paced game encouraged communication, cooperation and problem-solving.

They also took on a game of Skittles, working in relay teams to transport Skittles using only a straw and suction power, building focus, coordination and teamwork.

Both activities challenged our Joeys to work together, support one another and think creatively to achieve their goals. Best of all, there was plenty of laughter and fun along the way!

👏 Well done Joeys!

What a fantastic evening at the Morningside Scouts Annual Report Presentation last night 🔥⚜️

It was wonderful to reflect on an incredible year across Joeys, Cubs and Scouts, celebrate achievements, and look ahead to another exciting year of adventure, learning and community.

A special thank you to Di Farmer MP for joining us for the evening. Our Joeys proudly took turns sharing some of the exciting things they’ve been learning and doing this year — from new skills and challenges through to teamwork, confidence and outdoor adventures.

The evening was filled with great conversation, community spirit, and of course marshmallows around the firepit 🔥

A huge thank you to all of our volunteer leaders, committee members and families who help make Morningside Scouts such a special community for our young people.

Our Joeys were knot messing around last night when they mastered the Square Knot (Reef Knot)! ⚓

Originally used by sailors to reef and furl sails, the Reef Knot is one of the first and most well-known knots Scouts learn.

Fun fact: the first movement is the same as tying your shoelaces, making it a fantastic way for Joeys to build:

• fine motor skills
• coordination
• concentration
• confidence following step-by-step instructions

Knot tying also teaches patience, problem-solving, and practical outdoor skills, all while having fun!

Great work Joeys!

Joeys, Cubs and Scouts run every Thursday from 6–7pm during school term for boys and girls aged 5+. To find out more, or book a free trial, message us today!

Child Safety is our greatest priority!

This week, 11-17 May, is Safe from Harm Week.

This years theme: "Safeguarding Culture in Scouting".

This week is a time to come together to learn, share and take action to make Scouting safer, stronger and more supportive for everyone. Through engaging activities and meaningful conversations, this year's theme will focus on how creating safe environments isn’t just about having the right policies in place, but also about the everyday behaviours, attitudes and choices that shape how we care for one another.

Last night Morningside Scouts, celebrated Mother’s Day in the best way - by making pizzas for the important people in our lives who support us every day.

It was a night about care, appreciation, showing gratitude and “learning through doing,” which sits at the heart of Scouts.

The hall was buzzing with energy, laughter, and plenty of very proud little chefs! We got hands-on making pizzas from scratch, learning to follow instructions, work as a team, share tasks, and take responsibility along the way. Moments like these help build real-life skills such as independence, coordination, communication, and cooperation.

And of course… plenty of energy left for a big tree climb to finish the night!

A big thank you to Echidna, our leaders, and all the families and caregivers who joined us. Thanks so much for a fun, meaningful, and memorable evening!

💚 A place where children feel supported, included, and confident.

At Morningside Scouts, we see it every week - young people building confidence, forming friendships, and growing through adventure and encouragement.

A national study by Resilient Youth Australia also reflects this, showing that 62.1% of Scouts report a healthier mental state, compared to 49.1% of non-Scouts.

But what we notice most isn’t a statistic, it’s the small moments too:
✔ a child making a new friend
✔ trying something for the first time
✔ feeling proud of what they’ve achieved

Today, the Morningside Scouts were proud to stand alongside our local community in commemorating ANZAC Day.

Marching together along Oxford Street and attending the service at Bulimba Memorial Park, our Scouts showed quiet reflection, respect, and a deep sense of belonging as they honoured the servicemen and women who have served our country.

With a day that brought everything from rain to sunshine, and even a few rainbows 🌈, the strong turnout was a wonderful reflection of the unity and spirit of our community.

We are incredibly proud of our young people for marching with pride and demonstrating what it means to stand together, belong and to remember.

Lest we forget.
