A university mascot should be chosen by students, not decided behind closed doors.

Students were promised a competition, yet an AI-generated design was selected without a real vote or meaningful consultation. That’s not transparency, and it’s not student power.

UNIty believes campus culture should be created with students. We’re calling for an open, student-led process where our designs are seen and every student gets a real say.

❗ What’s happening to our SSA?

Before the new term has even begun, three elected representatives, the Women’s Rep, Academic Lead and Accessibility Rep, have already resigned.

We’ve officially kicked off our SSA Inquiry and are reaching out to those involved to understand what’s really going on. Students deserve transparency, accountability and a functioning SSA that actually represents them.

With only 2.4% of students voting for University Council and 3.08% for Academic Senate, every single vote for UNIty made a difference. ❤️🖤

We’re proud to have stood as Swinburne’s only fighting independents, pushing for better welfare, fairer conditions and a more inclusive university.

UNIty has also uncovered the use of AI by the Returning Officer (RO) during this election. This highlights a wider issue of streamlining across universities. We’ll be investigating how far this issue reaches at Swinburne by working with the NTEU.

We’re also launching a formal investigation into concerning conduct during the SSA elections, including the misuse of positions and access to student data. Transparency and accountability matter, and we’ll make sure students are heard.

The fight for fair representation isn’t over. Even though we haven’t been elected, we’ll continue holding student reps to their promises.

We’ll keep fighting for you. ✊

Thank you to every student of Swinburne for casting your vote!

Unfortunately this time around Myself and Alex were not elected, however, this is not unexpected nor why we nominationed, ran and campaigned.

We believe in a better Swinburne, and we'll keep fighting for that goal. Over the next couple of days you'll see some more content around these elections, and beyond that we still have the impending SSA By-election.
