This National Carers Week, we’re thinking of the parents, grandparents, siblings and guardians who show up every single day for the autistic and other neurodivergent kids they care for. To the carers who learn the strategies, sit through the long appointments, fight for the right support, and still find the energy to celebrate the small wins.

At Learning for Life, we get to walk alongside so many of you. We see the love, the persistence and the quiet strength behind every first day, every breakthrough and every hard day too.

Trust takes time. It's built conversation by conversation, connection by connection.

Asking how someone R U OK? doesn't have to fall on one day alone. Regular check-ins with team members opens up an honest conversation about mental health, the kind of conversation that can change the course of someone's life. For the families and educators we walk alongside every day, supporting children where they live, learn and play, these conversations matter so much.

On 10 September, ask R U OK? Then, keep asking.

This week, the Learning for Life Wellbeing Group put together wellbeing envelopes for staff to grab from the kitchen. They could be opened up at morning teas held every day this week, a lovely opportunity to have a moment in the sun with a cup of tea and a chat.

Dads giving it their all, the dads who we miss dearly, and the father figures who chose to guide us with love every day.

That's why individualised support matters. No two programs look the same, because no two children do.
Respect starts with really the child, the family, the person for who they are and what they need.
