"Next week, around 30 leaders from across the Australian Baptist movement will be gathering in Canberra for Converge, an annual advocacy event. Baptist Mission Australia will be represented by Hedda, one of our Board members, and myself (Teagan) from the National Team. We will meet with Members of Parliament and Senators from all sides of politics to advocate for greater response to the issue of family and domestic violence.
There should be no place for family and domestic violence in our society, and yet it is an all too real issue for far too many. 1 in 4 women experience violence at the hands of a partner and 2 in 5 children are exposed to domestic violence.
It seems simple - everyone should be and feel safe in their own home. It's a shameful tragedy that so many women and children are not safe at home. Crueler still that many are in more danger if they try to leave. This is far from God's picture of family and the just ways of Jesus.
Looking ahead to next week's conversations, would you pray that God would go ahead of us? Pray that our meetings with politicians will be part of positive change that leads to better outcomes for women and children. Ask that the politicians will listen, that we will communicate well and that our message will cut through political noise." - Teagan, National Team
