The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is calling for the Federal Government to freeze the general co-pay price until 2030 to lock in millions of dollars of savings for Victorian patients.

Since 1 January 2026, when the general co-pay price was cut from $31.60 to just $25, Victorian patients have saved $33.1 million.

“For many Victorian patients, even a small increase in medicine costs can make it harder to keep up with treatment. Freezing the general co-payment at $25 until 2030 would give patients certainty that the medicines they rely on will remain affordable,” said The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President George Tambassis.

We were pleased to attend the Patients Australia Patient's Choice Awards last week, where Victoria’s Anna Theophilos was recognised with the Outstanding Community Pharmacist Award.

Anna’s passion for patient care, commitment to pharmacist-led vaccination services and dedication to her community are a wonderful reflection of the impact community pharmacists have every day.

Congratulations, Anna on this well-deserved recognition of your commitment to community pharmacy and the meaningful difference you make for patients every day.

Emerald Village Pharmacy has always been there for its local community when it's needed most, and thanks to a new mobile generator, it will be even better equipped to continue providing access to essential healthcare services during power outages and severe weather events.

The pharmacy this week unveiled its new Power Trailer, made possible through AusNet's Energy Resilience Grant Program and the support of local community groups, which will help ensure patients can continue to access medicines, vaccinations, health advice and ongoing care during times of disruption.

We were delighted to join the Emerald Village Pharmacy team for the launch and celebrate this important investment in community resilience.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life and helping to strengthen healthcare access for Emerald and surrounding communities.

100,000 Community Pharmacist Program consultations - and counting.

Thank you to the more than 900 participating pharmacies across Victoria who are helping patients to access everyday healthcare close to home.

With 68% of consultations to date provided to women accessing resupply of hormonal contraception and treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), the program is making a real difference for Victorian women.

It’s also providing more options to access care closer to home for people living in regional and rural Victoria, with more than a quarter of participating pharmacies located in regional areas.

This milestone is a powerful reminder of the role community pharmacists play in improving access to timely, convenient and trusted care across Victoria.

We welcome the Victorian Government’s extension and expansion of Operation Pulse, allowing police and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) to patrol more major shopping centres.

“The expansion of Operation Pulse will provide reassurance to members who have had to invest in additional security measures to protect their staff, patients and premises,” said The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President George Tambassis.

New data out today shows that in 2024-25, urinary tract infections (UTIs) were responsible for 91,700 acute potentially preventable hospital admissions nationally.

We know if treated earlier, these statistics would plummet.

That’s why timely access to care matters.

In Victoria, trained community pharmacists have already delivered more than 43,000 treatments to women for uncomplicated UTIs - improving access to primary care and helping keep patients out of hospital.
