It's our second Big Mob Cook Up for the year, Fri. week 26th June, 11-1.00pm. We love getting together each term to cook up a bush-tucker themed meal to share. Everyone is welcome, mob, non-Indigenous allies, first time visitors to Willum Warrain. It is a free event. How it works is, you turn up 11.00am onwards and then help create a deadly feed together. We yarn and enjoy each other's company. Usually Big Mob Cook Up is over soon after 1.00pm.
Hope to see you there! See less

ECG Pakenham School visited Willum Warrain yesterday for a Cultural Immersion Tour and two workshops, clap stick burning and boomerang painting. They had a good time learning about Aboriginal history, culture and doing hands on activities. We love meeting young people and sharing the story of our Gathering Place and community. Every single day schools visit us!

Some of our fellas today with their paintings. All our groups are doing paintings of seasonal change at Willum Warrain. There is such a range being created as part of our "Seeing Country" Dhelk Dja project. Today was our 2nd last week for Term 2. Next week, we are meeting at Balnarring Beach rotunda at 10.30am. You can travel with us from the Gathering Place at 10.00am or go straight to the rotunda. Looking forward to a beach stroll and a feed to see out the term. Hey Deadly Sista’s, First People’s have their mobile van at Nairm for breast screening all week. If you are in need for a check up, there is a culturally safe and beautiful space for you.

From 15-19 June, The Beautiful Shawl Project is coming to First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing/Nairm Marr Djambana in Frankston – offering free, culturally safe breast screens to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women aged 40+.

Each person who screens with The Beautiful Shawl Project will receive a shawl to wear during the screening and take home afterwards as a gift. The Dunguludja Mulana (Strong Spirit) shawl was designed by Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba, Mutti Mutti and Wiradjuri artist Alkina Edwards.

Describing her artwork, Alkina says: “This artwork represents women empowerment, resilience and strong spirits. Within the background, I have placed symbols that represent our beautiful countries and women gatherings showing the physical and spiritual connection we have with the land and each other.

At the front of the design, I have visual figures of women. This is to depict women supporting, empowering and leaning on each other through these experiences, while creating culturally safe spaces for women to express themselves and share their stories.”

If you’re aged 40+, book your free breast screen today by calling First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing at 03 9070 8181.

Today another group of Peninsula Health professionals visited Willum Warrain for a Cultural Immersion tour. See Aunty Helen speaking to the group; see the group enjoying the warmth of possum skin cloaks, see Michelle doing ceremony at our ngargee ground. We appreciate Peninsula Health's interest in our gathering place and the desire of their staff to grow cross-cultural skills and be better practitioners.

Our Bush Play Group missed Aunty Ange and Aunty Julie today. Aunty Michelle jumped in to help out Uncle John. Even though it was cold, our bubups loved being outside for most of the session. Aunty Michelle read a dreaming story of Purinina, the Tassie devil from her Country, shared by Aunty Darlene Mansell. We also explored how ballee cherry and clematis flower connects to Purinina dreaming. We ran and growled like Purinina and kicked up sand at the ngargee!
P.S. Hey you Deadly Youth mob - tomorrow's session (Thursday 11th June) has been cancelled due to staff illness. Apologies everyone.
