Fixing Hartley Vale Road

We have continued to press both Lithgow and Blue Mountains Councils and Transport for a major repair job on Hartley Vale Road. Both Councils have obtained quotes for these works and have given them to Transport for consideration for funding and we continue to push for prompt approval of these spends.

Overall, the road surface upgrade job has four elements. The first is fixing the subsidence road slump issue in the bottom 200 metres of the BMCC element of the road for which BMCC already holds funding. The next two are essentially the resurfacing of the BMCC and LCC elements of the road to bring them up to spec, which are separately contracted by each of the Councils. The fourth element relates to the repair of Hartley Vale Road between the bottom of the descent through to the Fields Road corner, work that should be funded by Transport.

BMCC’s attached letter announces the commencement of the works on the subsidence and road slump issue. This will entail rock bolting and other control measures above and below the road, and at the same time some tidying up along their section of the road will be undertaken. Council has agreed to undertake this work at night as requested via the combined communities ‘Victoria Pass Closure Local Impact Committee’ and we thank the Blue Mountains City Council for their consideration in this regard. The stabilisation project commencing this month sounds like it will be minimally disruptive as outlined in the Blue Mountains City Council letter attached.

The signage relating to the ‘westbound only’ use of Hartley Vale Road has still not been erected but we are assured it will be shortly.

The other item we continue to pursue is the need for some lighting at the corner of Hartley Vale Road and Darling Causeway, where you take the sharp turn into the black abyss when travelling at night.

Controlled use of the road for school bus transits is still very much on the agenda but we are unlikely to see progress on that call until the above works are completed. All very frustrating.

Free Coffee and Cake at the Postmistress Cafe this coming Friday the 16th!!

It's now more than seven months since the Victoria Pass closed. Recognising that this might be causing stress across our community, the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program has reached out and offered a ‘get together for a chat opportunity’ with free coffee and cake on Friday 16th October between 10am and 12.30 at the Postmistress Café in the Hartley Historic Village.

Here is a great opportunity to let them know about the stresses the pass closure has caused across our local community, to seek advice on where to find appropriate support services, or just to have a chat. See the flyer attached.

Don't forget, the Hartley Valley Garden Festival is on during the weekend of 24th & 25th October. Explore the four open gardens at Hartvale, Highfields, Wild Meadows and Goryu Japanese Garden. Cost $15 per garden.
