๐พ A fascinating piece of farming history right here in Harrisville!
This incredible machine is a McCormick-Deering Reaper Binder โ once one of the most important machines on Australian farms during the late 1800s and early 1900s. These horse-drawn machines revolutionised farming by cutting grain crops such as wheat, barley, and oats, before automatically binding them into neat sheaves ready for drying. ()
Before machines like this, harvesting grain was exhausting manual labour that took huge numbers of workers. The reaper binder changed rural Australia forever and became a common sight across farming communities throughout the country. ()
Imagine this very machine rolling through paddocks behind a team of horses, with the sounds of gears, chains, and sickle blades hard at work during harvest season.
You can see this remarkable piece of agricultural history at the Harrisville Historical Museum this Saturday from 10am to 2pm ๐๏ธ
