Carey Right Track is back in town!

With the support of the Shire of Mount Magnet, Carey Right Track returns this week for the Youth Engagement Program!

Flashback to October 2016

At the heart of Carey Right Track is a simple idea: bringing people together so we can learn from each other.

Our 2016 Meekatharra holiday program was a wonderful example of that. Coaches from Canning Athletics Club and students from Carey Baptist College made the trip to Meekatharra to support the local youth services, running recreational activities for the kids during the school holidays.

In return, the Meekatharra community welcomed our team on country, sharing knowledge about the land and culture, and even treating everyone to some bush tucker along the way.

It was a week of giving, learning and connection that we still look back on fondly. A huge thank you to the Meekatharra community, Canning Athletics Club and our Carey students for making it so special.

Term 4 is here!

We’re excited to be kicking off the new term, with Che and Pia heading to Pannawonica today!

The Panna Youth Centre will be open this afternoon, and the team is looking forward to catching up with the young people at school too.

Miss Katherine and the Carey Compassion Dance Company have been a long time supporter of Carey Right Track raising money to support the work in communities. If you are in Perth and looking for some great entertainment check out their latest performance.

It's an honour and a responsibility to work alongside communities and partners to create opportunities for young people. This term that has included:

📍 Our remote programs in Mount Magnet District High School, Shire of Mount Magnet, Cue Primary School, Shire of Cue, and Pannawonica School
📍 Our Department of Justice WA programs at Banksia Hill Detention Centre and The Y
📍 Our leadership programs at Carey Baptist College - Harrisdale
📍 Student Leadership conferences, in partnership with like-minded schools

Farewell and Thank you Lola

Lola has been a true blessing to Carey Right Track and to every community she has worked with. Her fun, friendly and positive nature has made a real difference to so many people.

Lola is now leaving us to take up a new role teaching outdoor education in Margaret River. It's a well deserved next step, and those students are in for something special!

Lola, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for everything, and best of luck with the next adventure.

Community Connections in Mount Magnet!

Last week, our CEO Graeme Watson headed out to Mount Magnet with Terry, supporting programs at school and community sports sessions.

One of the standout moments? Bumping into Malcolm, who now works with TIS (Tackling Indigenous Smoking) as they delivered programs in the school!

Malcolm's path has crossed with Carey Right Track many times over the years, from taking part in our programs at Meekatharra school and youth centre, to this great photo from the Meekatharra Outback Festival back in 2023.
It's moments like these that remind us why this work matters. Seeing young people from the Mid West grow into leadership and give back to their communities is exactly what we're here for.

From Stanford University to Yalgoo and Gero, this is where it all began.

Carey Right Track started with an opportunity to take young people to the USA for the Stanford University Track and Field Summer Camp, a chance to learn new skills, experience new opportunities, and then bring that knowledge home to serve their own communities and beyond.

In that very first cohort was Nickeisha Hodder, who grew up in Yalgoo and trained under Jacko Whitby in Geraldton. After returning from the USA, Nickeisha didn't stop there, she got straight into helping run programs back in Yalgoo and Geraldton alongside the CRTF team, passing on everything she'd learned to the next generation.

From Yalgoo to Stanford that's the Carey Right Track story.
