Do you want to support your local volunteers but don't have a lot of free time? We understand! We are currently looking for new members to help out with our fundraising BBQs. We need a few extra hands for cooking and serving for just a few hours at a time, around 6 times per year. It’s a great way to give back to your local community without a heavy time commitment.

A Community Memorial Service is being held this Sunday to recognise the sacrifice, commitment and service of Marine Rescue Ballina volunteers and local first responders following the tragic events of 4 May.

Stone Families Honoured for Flood Bravery
The extraordinary courage, selflessness and community spirit shown by the Stone families during the devastating May 2025 flood has been recognised with a NSW Government Community Service Award.
During what has been described as a one-in-500-year flood event, Matthew, Anthony, Brayden and Bridget Stone put the safety of others before their own. Using oyster punts, they rescued more than 100 people trapped by rapidly rising floodwaters across Oxley, Dumaresq and Jones Islands, Moto, Coopernook and Croki.
Despite their own oyster business suffering significant losses, the family rescued residents over two days, demonstrating remarkable courage, resilience and compassion in the face of extraordinary danger.
As Robert Dwyer MP, Member for Port Macquarie, said, this award recognises not only the Stone families' extraordinary actions during the flood, but also the values of service, generosity and community that define our region.
Congratulations to the Stone families on this fitting and well-deserved honour. Your actions made an immeasurable difference to so many lives, and your bravery will be remembered for years to come. 👏 Robert Dwyer MP Stones Oysters and Shed Takeaway

Did you know that Marine Rescue NSW provides the state’s only public marine radio network? Thanks to an extensive radio system and dedicated infrastructure, our team is always listening.

Our incredible Radio Operators, like Barry, monitor these airwaves to keep our local waters safe. They provide a vital, lifesaving service, including:

24/7 emergency monitoring across a range of marine channels.

A watchful eye (and ear) on the water, ensuring local boaters return home safely.

🎤 A Familiar Voice on and off the Air!
When Barry isn’t on the radio saving lives, you can often find him on Friday nights on the mic Shoreline Tavern Harrington, helping to raise much-needed funds for our unit! Community support keeps us running, and volunteers like Barry make it all happen.

⚓ UNIT LEADERSHIP UPDATE: THANK YOU, PETER BARBER, AND WELCOME DEBRA JONES ⚓

Marine Rescue Crowdy Harrington is entering a new chapter as our Unit Commander, Peter Barber, steps down after four years at the helm.

Peter’s contribution to our unit over the last four years has been nothing short of incredible. Under his dedicated leadership, our team has grown into a highly functional, tightly-knit, and efficient unit, better equipped than ever to serve and protect our boating community.

While he is stepping down from the top job, the fantastic news is that Peter isn't going anywhere! He will be staying on with the unit, ensuring that his immense wealth of experience as a skipper, radio operator, assessor, and teacher remains right here to support our crew and protect our local waters. Thank you, Peter, for your tireless dedication, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to our community.

As we look to the future, we are thrilled to officially welcome our incoming leadership team. Please join us in congratulating our new Unit Commander, Debra Jones, and our new Deputy Unit Commander, Greg Bower!

Both Deb and Greg bring a wealth of passion, experience, and local knowledge to their roles. We are incredibly proud to have them leading the way as we continue our mission of saving lives on the water.
