As daylight saving ends and we gain an extra hour, it’s a great opportunity to take a moment for home fire safety. It is important to check your smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly.

It’s crucial your home has working smoke alarms, as they provide an early warning and give you and your family valuable time to escape during a house fire.

With the cooler months approaching, please stay safe this winter. There are several simple steps you can take, such as creating a home escape plan, ensuring your smoke alarm is working and keeping all items at least a meter from the heater.

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW including Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

Training day at Harrington and we’d like to officially introduce our newest recruit… Manny 🦆🚒

Manny took his role very seriously, turning up in full gear and keeping a close eye on the crew during pump and hose drills. We’re pleased to report his supervision skills are… questionable, but his morale boosting abilities are second to none.

On a more serious note, our brigade has been carrying out essential training to support new members working towards completing their BF (Bush Firefighter) qualification. Sessions like this are a key part of building skills, confidence, and ensuring we’re ready when the community needs us.

It’s always great to get the crew together, sharpen skills, and have a few laughs… or should we say a quack-up along the way.

Big thanks to everyone involved, and of course to Manny for keeping spirits high. 🦆🚒

🚒 Training Morning with Harrington Fire Brigade 🚒

Yesterday morning, Harrington Fire Brigade held a training session welcoming one of our newest members and putting our new truck through its paces.

The crew focused on familiarisation, hands-on skills, and teamwork to ensure everyone is confident, capable, and ready to respond when our community needs us. Training like this is vital to keeping our brigade safe, efficient, and operational.

A big thank you to all members who attended and helped make the morning a success. Welcome aboard to our new member — we’re glad to have you as part of the Harrington RFB family!

Nearing the completion of training harrington also assisted Camden Haven Brigade at an MVA on the pacific highway at Middle Brother and shortly after got called to a Structure fire in coopernook but thankfully nothing was found. 🚗🔥

Harrington Brigade took ownership of their new cat 7 tanker today as a replacement for our old cat 7 tanker which was unfortunately ridden off during the flooding in our area in May 2025.Thank you to the NSW Rural Fire Service and the Mid Coast District for organising this replacement for the Harrington Brigade.

Harrington Rural Fire Brigade Volunteer Recruitment Drive

The Harrington Rural Fire Brigade is currently seeking volunteers and warmly invites community members to join the team. Our brigade is made up of locals—perhaps even your friends and neighbours—who play a vital role in keeping our area safe during bush fires and other emergencies.

Who Can Join?

We welcome both males and females from the age of 16 years. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Harrington Rural Fire Brigade, please reach out to us or use the following link for more information:

Membership Requirements

To become a fire fighter of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), you will need to complete the Bush Fire Fighter course. While not overly demanding, the course does require dedication during the training phase. Upon joining, all volunteers receive comprehensive training as well as the necessary personal protective clothing and equipment tailored to their role within the brigade.
