Finding a solution to the dangerous Manning River entrances has plagued locals for years. But now there's some progress- with research into opening them permanently underway this week.

We are well over halfway now with the signatures and wanting to finalise the petition within the coming months.
We are calling everyone to get pen to paper so we can get as many signatures as possible.

A petition urging the state government to create permanent entrances to the Manning River is gaining traction. The community group leading the charge says the project has now secured the backing of numerous local fishermen and oyster farmers.

Permanent entrances to the Manning River may be on the horizon after millions of dollars of funding have been set aside. Taskforces will be put to work to find out if the project is environmentally friendly and financially justifiable.

A MASSIVE WIN

Stephen Bromhead is asking for the community to act. A new petition has been made to secure funding for two permanent entrances to the Manning River. By law, if this petition gets 10 000 signatures then it must be debated in NSW Parliament. The locations on these petitions are listed below.

“Launching this petition is a way of asking the community to show their support for both a permanent navigable entrance between Harrington and Manning Point and a permanent opening of the Farquhar inlet,” Mr Bromhead said.

We would like to thank our community for getting us this far and ask that our voice continue to be heard. Please sign this petition and get excited for our future ahead.

PRIME 7 have aired another piece after receiving full support from Council on Wednesday.

Council has given the green light to an initiative that will hopefully stop the Manning River from breaking its banks in the future.
