This is a place to showcase real, on-the-ground action that is a result of the hard work and advocacy on the part of the Derwent

Our team has recently been hard at work removing willows from Sorell Creek in the Derwent Valley.

Removing these invasive trees helps improve water flow through the creek, reducing flood risk and creating a healthier river system.

Well done to the team!

Our team has been hard at work this week planting shelterbelts at Glenelg Estate near Gretna.

Shelterbelts are an effective land management tool for farmers in the Tasmanian Midlands. They help reduce wind erosion, provide shade and shelter for livestock, improve biodiversity, and make farms more resilient during dry conditions.

Well-designed shelterbelts can also create habitat corridors for native wildlife, connecting patches of vegetation across the landscape.

It's a simple idea with long-lasting benefits for both farms and the environment.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for our planting team.

Last week, they were out along the Clyde River planting local native species following major willow removal works. Our team is committed enough to get in the river (without waders!) to make sure every plant goes in the right spot.

This week, the team is at Glenelg Estate near Gretna planting a new shelterbelt, which will help to provide shelter for livestock, improve farm health and create habitat for native species.

There’s plenty more planting to come across the Derwent Catchment in the weeks ahead, so a big thanks to our dedicated team!

Our planting team had a very special visitor this week while working on the Clyde River at Croaker’s Alley near Bothwell.

We’ve been restoring this section of river by removing dense willow infestations that were restricting flow and degrading habitat. The next stage is replanting native species to help bring the river system back to health.

And it seems someone already approves!

Planting season has arrived!

Drop into the Derwent Native Plant Nursery in Hamilton to check out our range of native species. We have more than 80 species available, which are suitable for farms, gardens and restoration projects.

Our team is here to help you find the right plants for your site.

Open 10am–4pm, Tuesday to Friday. You can find us next to the Fire Station on Ponsonby Street, right in the centre of town.

It’s been a busy week for us with the launch of the Nature Repair Pilot.

Have a listen to this interview with our Deputy CEO, Dr Eve Lazarus, speaking with Ryk Goddard on ABC Hobart Breakfast Radio.

It’s a great overview of the project and the on-ground work we are doing across the Derwent Catchment.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government’s Local Environmental Projects Program.

Last week, we launched a project we are incredibly proud of: the Nature Repair Pilot.

This is a major step forward for restoring the health of the Derwent Catchment and supporting long-term, on-ground environmental outcomes across the Derwent Valley.

A big day for the Derwent Catchment!

Today, we are very proud to launch our Nature Repair Pilot. It's a major step forward for restoring the health of the Derwent Catchment.

This $10 million federal investment is the largest environmental election commitment ever made to the region. It will support long-term, nature repair projects across the catchment.

Thank you to Rebecca White and the many representatives from Derwent Catchment industry, tourism, state government land managers and business enterprises, local business, farmers and community for joining us for this special event and helping mark the beginning of this exciting project.

Stay tuned.... there is much more to come!
