Did you know that the Erindale Road Bushland contains a Tuart woodland? Over 80% of Tuart woodland has been cleared on the Swan Coastal Plain. Every Tuart tree is critically important to the health of the ecology. A Tuart woodland commonly supports up to 800 species of invertebrate in its foliage and bark. Hollows in mature and old Tuarts are used for breeding by a variety of birds, possums and bats, and grubs provide a food source for Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos. Every effort must be made to protect the Tuart trees in the 13.55ha of bushland that is proposed to be cleared for housing at Erindale Road, Hamersley and within the remainder of the 42ha bushland area.

Thank you for your support with the recent march. If you are feeling ready to take further action, there are a myriad of ways you can help to save the black cockatoos and the forests they rely on. Don’t stop having those important conversations with friends and family, but here are some other practical ways to get involved.

1/ Sign the petition to keep the US out of our forests: bit.ly/Keep-Trump-out-of-NJF
Petition for people outside of WA: bit.ly/Stop-Alcoa-Petition

2/ Go on a bus tour with Jarrahdale Forest Protectors Inc to see for yourself the impacts of mining in our jarrah forests. Register here: https://events.humanitix.com/forest-fact-tours-2026-round-2

3/ Follow the many grass roots communities who are fighting to protect the forests on their doorstep. Sustaining the fight takes many of us working together in solidarity.

"We've just got to the point where there's so little left that the priority should be protection."

One of the projects referred to in the the article is the proposed clearing of the Erindale Road Bushland in Hamersley for development, a Banksia and Tuart Woodland. It is still awaiting an assessment outcome. These are biodiversity hotspots, providing vital habitats for endangered species like Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo. Offsets do not compensate for the loss of these Threatened Ecological Communities and this senseless clearing must stop.

Developers in Perth want to tear down a banksia woodland habitat that shelters endangered black cockatoos to build new housing subdivisions.
