Set in Halls Gap in the stunning Grampians National Park, (western Victoria) a myriad of workshops are offered under the inspiring direction of local and national tutors. These range from watercolours, coloured pencils, drawing, print making, life drawing, charcoal, contemporary and traditional work. There is an opportunity for a wide variety of artistic choice. Workshops offered are for the weekend (2 days) or four days (Monday – Thursday), or 6 days (Saturday – Thursday) 9.00 am – 4 pm. Come and enjoy the local environment, in addition to the inspiring workshops, have a holiday and a great creative experience.

Our subject for this workshop will be the Scarlet Honeyeater and Silky Oak. This workshop is designed for experienced beginners and/or intermediate level artists with some watercolour experience wanting to expand your skill level.

Prior to the workshop, students will receive a link to a secure Google Drive Folder containing all reference materials and instructions.

Kay Watanabe – MOKUHANGA JAPANESE-STYLE WOODBLOCK PRINTING 5 day workshop at Summer Brushes.

You’ll create a woodblock print of your design in two to three colours, which means you will carve a few wood blocks. Then hand print them on washi Japanese paper, using water-based ink. We will discuss the history of Japanese woodblock, including Ukiyo-e and contemporary works as well as tools and materials, such as washi Japanese paper, which are quite different from those used in Western printmaking.

Ileigh Hellier – Poems to Paintings 5 day workshop at Summer Brushes.

Let go of your ‘thinking mind’ and connect to your subconscious through poetry and painting. In this workshop, participants will sift through books, cutting out words and phrases to write their own poetry with. These poems will be the subject matter of the paintings that we create. Throughout this process, participants will learn a variety of painting techniques with focuses on abstraction and symbolism.
