1000 Pairs-Changing Lives

Thousands of children and adults in Uganda are victims of parasitic insects called jiggers that burrow into the feet and start laying eggs. When the eggs hatch, the person’s feet serves as a host for the newly born jiggers. The resulting wounds from hundreds of burrowed jiggers can become so excruciating that normal childhood activities—such as walking, running, playing, and even attending school—can be significantly limited. Unfortunately, a social stigma associated with jiggers often keeps people from seeking immediate help and infected individuals are often ostracized by their loved ones.

1000 pairs is a challenge that has been set to host Shoe Making Workshops in my local area.These shoes are made from old denim products such as jeans.The shoe components that are cut from the denim are put together in a kit, and sent over to Uganda. These kits are then sewn together to make shoes for the children and the elderly of Uganda.
