Please slow down when you see these signs, they're there for this very reason! 🙏❤️‍🩹🦘

This is a sight we shouldn't have to see.

A kangaroo lay lifeless on the roadside, under a kangaroo crossing warning sign. A sign that exists for one reason - to remind us that this is their home too.

They don't know what these signs mean. We do.

He was simply following instincts that have guided generations before him. Instead, his journey ended under the very warning that should have given him a chance.

Please don't ignore wildlife signs. Slow down. Stay alert. A few moments of care could mean the difference between life and death for an innocent animal.

Our roads cut through their habitat. The least we can do is drive with the respect they deserve.

I'm currently in Rubyvale Qld at a friends mining claim.. we get wallabies in most nights looking for food. Every now and then we give them some sweet potato as a treat. This little girl has a joey in her pouch, and she was reared by someone out here when she was a bub.. so she is very friendly and comes right up to me to get her treat, I feel very privileged 🥰🙏
I must say though, please don't over feed wildlife, they really need to learn to forage for themselves.. and if you do feel the need, please be aware what types of food are ok for the particular animal.

🚗🐨 Wildlife Emergency Kit – Are You Prepared?

We are often asked what you should keep in your car in case you come across injured wildlife, especially koalas, on our roads. Having a few simple items on hand can make a huge difference while waiting for a rescuer to arrive.

🧺 Wildlife Emergency Essentials:
✔️ Thick towel or blanket – protects you from teeth and claws and helps safely move off road and cover wildlife
✔️ Washing basket – can be placed over a koala to keep them safe and contained (and handy for storing your emergency kit)
✔️ Flagging tape or bright marker – helps rescuers locate the animal if you can’t stay
✔️ Torch – useful for seeing the animal safely at night or in low-light conditions

🐨⚠️ Fences: a hidden threat to koalas ⚠️🐨

Fences are a common part of our landscape, but some types can pose a risk to koalas and other wildlife.

Koalas regularly move across properties in search of food, water, and mates. When fencing isn’t wildlife-friendly, it can block movement, fragment habitat, and in some cases cause entanglement, serious injury, or worse.

Barbed wire, wire mesh, poorly maintained fences, or fencing placed through known wildlife pathways are particularly dangerous, especially during dispersal and breeding seasons when koalas are on the move.

🌿 The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.
✔️ Use wildlife-friendly fencing where possible
✔️ Remove unnecessary barbed wire or replace the top and bottom strand with barbless barbed wire or plain wire.
✔️ Keep fences visible and well maintained
✔️ Leave safe movement gaps in known koala pathways

Protecting koalas doesn’t always mean big changes - sometimes it’s about thoughtful choices on the ground that help wildlife move safely through our shared landscapes. 💚
