Have you ever wanted to learn Basket Weaving? In our upcoming workshop you will learn how to weave a new type of basket and explore different fibres. It’s great for beginners or for people who’ve come along to previous workshops to continue to develop their craft.
Basket weaving is one of humanity’s oldest crafts, with origins that trace back thousands of years. Archaeological evidence shows that early baskets were fashioned well before the advent of pottery, using pliable grasses, reeds, and other natural fibres. From the ancient Egyptians, who created intricate woven containers for food and goods, to the indigenous peoples across the world who adapted local plants into baskets for carrying, storing, and ceremonial purposes, the craft reflects both utility and artistry. No two regions are quite alike — each culture developed unique weaving techniques and patterns, passing them down through generations.
