Have you ever wanted to learn Basket Weaving? In our upcoming workshop you will learn how to weave a new type of basket and explore different fibres. It’s great for beginners or for people who’ve come along to previous workshops to continue to develop their craft.

Basket weaving is one of humanity’s oldest crafts, with origins that trace back thousands of years. Archaeological evidence shows that early baskets were fashioned well before the advent of pottery, using pliable grasses, reeds, and other natural fibres. From the ancient Egyptians, who created intricate woven containers for food and goods, to the indigenous peoples across the world who adapted local plants into baskets for carrying, storing, and ceremonial purposes, the craft reflects both utility and artistry. No two regions are quite alike — each culture developed unique weaving techniques and patterns, passing them down through generations.

Join our experienced and amazing instructors (Yonke and Helen) to learn all about Basket Weaving in a friendly and welcoming environment.

10am, Thursday May 14 - Only $30 – all materials provided - register soon to secure your spot.

Come and meet the makers as the Hidden Gems group of artists open their studios over the 9th and 10th of May 2026.

We’re going to have 4 amazing artists right here at The Haddon CLC! Deidre Bain, Heather Pickering, Darren Thrift and Beverley Inch will all be here to show and discuss their art.

There are lots of studios open - all within about 10 minutes of each other which makes it an enjoyable mini-arts trail.

In Haddon you have the studios of - Vida Pearson and Fred Ross. The Haddon Community Centre is exhibiting artists from Golden Plains Arts and Rosie Grundell can be found in Lemajics Road, Scarsdale.

Drive on to Steve Drew in Nintingbool Road and Red Echidna Studios at Smythes Creek and then to Raintree Art - (specialising in Aboriginal art) in Cambrian Hill. Their studios open twice a year as an opportunity to connect with art lovers and to show their skills in their chosen mediums.

For those looking to buy an original gift this is a wonderful opportunity - something local, handmade, and unique. They all work in different mediums and offer a diverse range of subject-matter and style. The studios offer printmaking, artisan furniture, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and Aboriginal art.

It’s a great chance to explore your local region with the bonus of interesting artists to chat to and wonderful artwork to view.

The Thread Van is returning to Linton at 11am on Thursday 26 March.

Every year, millions of brand-new clothing items go to waste, while at the same time, thousands of Australians experience hardship without access to essential clothing. Thread Together exists to bridge this gap—delivering dignity and hope, one outfit at a time.

The organisation was created in Sydney in 2012 to donate unsold clothing instead of disposing of it. This initiative helps people in need and protects the environment by reducing landfill waste. Thread Together was launched in the Central Highlands region in 2021 – working with CAFS with a hub in Ballarat – and the Thread Van was introduced in 2023.

The Thread Van will be setting up outside The Linton Emergency Relief Pantry next Thursday (26 March) at 11am. The Thread Van is part of the Thread Together charity.

This is all about access to quality clothes for people who need it – could this help you? or maybe you know someone who could benefit?
