Howl-o-ween's almost here, but let’s keep the scares fake and the animals safe 🐾🎃

Here’s how to make your spooky celebrations wildlife-friendly and pet-approved 👇

🕸️ Skip the spider webs: Those fake webs might look spooky, but they’re bad news for birds and bats who may ingest the synthetic fibres, become entangled or try lining their nests with them. Keep it indoors or skip it altogether to protect our native friends.

🦴 Decorate with care: Little plastic props or tinsel bits can be tempting chew toys (and dangerous choking hazards). Keep them out of paw’s reach!

🍫 No tricks, no treats: Chocolate and lollies are toxic to pets. Keep the tempting treat bowl from being sniffed out and clean up any stray wrappers.

🎭 Keep costumes comfy: If your pet’s dressing up, make sure they can move freely, stay cool and are supervised. Keep outfits short-lived and fun, never forced. If they look stressed, skip the outfit.

From factory floors to treetops 🐨🌿
This curious koala caused quite the surprise when she wandered into a factory in Salisbury - definitely not where you’d expect to find a koala!

Thankfully, the workers knew something wasn’t right and quickly called for help. Our RSPCA Rescue Team collected Ellie and brought her in to be checked over by our Wildlife Vet Team.

With a clean bill of health, there was only one thing left to do – get Ellie back where she belonged ❤️

Our Rescue Team found Ellie a suitable spot in nearby bushland to where she was found, and set about choosing the perfect tree. Safe to say Ellie approved! She quickly climbed her way to the top and settled in like she had never left!

With koala breeding season underway, more koalas are on the move and can sometimes turn up in unexpected places.

If you live in koala habitat, please help keep them safe by containing pets, keeping dogs on leash when walking through bushland and making your backyard koala-friendly.

And if you spot a koala somewhere unusual or potentially unsafe, please call the RSPCA Emergency Hotline on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625), or your closest wildlife carer for help 🐨❤️

How has this clever, toy-loving girl been waiting this long for her forever home?! 🥹

A painful reminder to always take your fishing gear with you 🎣💔
This Grey-headed Flying Fox found himself in serious trouble when a three-pronged fishing hook became embedded through his lip and nose.

Thankfully, the team at Bats QLD came to his rescue and safely transported him to our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, where our Wildlife Vet team got to work.

Under anaesthetic, our Vet team carefully cut the hook into sections before gently removing each piece.

Despite how nasty his injuries looked, this little guy has healed well and is now continuing his rehabilitation ❤️🦇

But not every animal caught in fishing gear is so lucky.

Discarded hooks and fishing line can remain a serious threat long after a day of fishing is over, catching, tangling and seriously injuring unsuspecting wildlife.

So next time you cast a line, please take all hooks, line and fishing gear with you. And if you spot discarded fishing gear while you’re out and about, and it’s safe to collect, please pick it up and bin it.

A few seconds cleaning up can prevent a painful injury for wildlife ❤️

And remember, if you ever find a bat in trouble, never attempt to handle it yourself. Keep your distance and call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL, Bats Qld, Bat Conservation and Rescue Qld, or your nearest wildlife carer.

🐾❤️ Another beautiful weekend full of adoptions! ❤️🐾

This weekend, we said goodbye to Tiny George, Usher, Jellybean, Kleo, Melman and Dimple as they each began a brand-new chapter with their forever families. 🏡💕

While goodbyes are always bittersweet for our team, there is nothing more special than watching the animals we’ve cared for walk out the door and into a future filled with love, safety and happiness.

To every single adopter who opened their heart and home to one of our beautiful animals, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for choosing adoption, for giving them a chance, and for being the beginning of their next chapter. 🥹❤️

🚨 Ticks are a hazard all year round! 🚨
Checking your pets daily for ticks can be a life saver. Take the time to check those ‘hidden’ places like under the collar, between toes and inside their ears 🐱🐶

If you find a tick on your pet, or they start to show symptoms of tick paralysis ACT FAST - Take them to your local vet immediately.

⚠️ If you see any of the following symptoms in your pet, don't delay vet treatment ⚠️
🐾 Vomiting or gagging
🐾 Difficulty breathing
🐾 Dry cough or change in bark or meow
🐾 Unsteady, staggering walk
🐾 Disinterest in food
🐾 Hind leg paralysis

Some cats and dogs do not show the typical hind limb paralysis at first. Initially they may only exhibit a gurgling, choking cough, however their condition will quickly deteriorate.

🐾❤️ WHAT A WAY TO END THE WEEKEND! ❤️🐾

What an incredible weekend of happy endings! 🥹🏡

Red Dog, Juno, Shay and Derek have ALL found their wonderful forever homes! 🎉

We are especially grateful to see our beautiful long-termers, Red Dog and Juno, finally walk out of the shelter and into their new chapters. ❤️ After spending so much time in our care, watching them leave with their families was such a special moment.

Juno’s farewell was particularly emotional. 🥹❤️ Our amazing volunteer Sandra and Juno shared such a special friendship during his time with us, and it was only fitting that Sandra was there to give him one last big hug and kiss goodbye as he headed off to start his new life. 🥹🐾

Our gorgeous shy girl Shay has also left us to begin her new life. 🐱💕 We couldn’t be happier for our sweet girl and hope she continues to blossom with her new family.

And little Derek has hit the jackpot too! 🥰 He now has a new big sister, Bella, to show him the ropes and help him settle into his new life. 🐶❤️

A huge thank you to every single one of our adopters for opening your hearts and homes. 🏡✨
