When our businesses grow, the region grows with us.

Gumatj Construction now employs more than 70 people across East Arnhem Land, creating local jobs, training pathways and opportunities across a growing range of construction trades.

For us, winning major projects like the Ramingining Remote Housing Program is only part of the story. The bigger goal is building skills, experience and capability that stay in the region.

By growing strong local businesses, we can reduce reliance on outside contractors, create more opportunities for Yolŋu people and reinvest more of the value generated here back into East Arnhem communities.

That is what long-term, sustainable development looks like.

Last month, the Gumatj Retail Precinct came to life with local makers, growers and businesses coming together for our first ever community markets.

With many local businesses taking part, the markets were a celebration of local produce, local enterprise and the people helping to strengthen our regional economy.

Supporting local businesses means keeping more opportunity, skills and investment within East Arnhem Land, and creating more spaces for community to connect.

Garma Festival marked its 26th annual gathering, bringing people from across Australia together here in North-East Arnhem Land.

A first for East Arnhem Land.

We are pleased to share that we have designed, licensed and constructed the region’s first dedicated asbestos disposal facility, creating a safe, locally managed solution for asbestos waste across our region.

Delivered with Gumatj Civil and Gumatj Construction, the facility is a major step forward for environmental management, regional self-sufficiency and Indigenous-led infrastructure.

It reflects our focus on protecting Country, creating local opportunities and building a more self-sufficient future.

We're proud to share that Gumatj Construction has been awarded a $6 million, three year Northern Territory Government construction contract in Ramingining.

The project will deliver construction, demolition, refurbishment and upgrade works to Northern Territory Government infrastructure in Ramingining under the Remote Housing Program.

In addition to building community, this contract means real employment, training and economic opportunities for Yolŋu people.

What does the new Gumatj Retail Precinct mean for the Nhulunbuy community? Our directors shared some insight on the impact.

Bringing a key local asset into Gumatj ownership and opening up new opportunities for the region. This means supporting local jobs and businesses, maintaining important services for the community and creating more pathways for Gumatj people to participate in and benefit from the local economy.
