Today on THE BUTTERFLY SHOW,, Radio 1RPH’s Dr Suzi Bond concludes her readings of Patrick Barkham’s The Butterfly Isles: A summer spent in search of our Emperors and Admirals (2010) and updates the book with an article by Patrick Barkham: Top marks for sharp-eyes snappers as UK nets another butterfly species (2025). The absolute newest species to be recorded flying in from the European mainland, the Southern Small White (Pieris mannii), officially recorded in the UK for the first time with verified photographic sightings in Suffolk and County Durham.

Suzi also reports that eagled eyed nature lovers have spotted this (northern) spring Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros) at several southern England sites (from Kent in the east to Cornwall in the west and on the Isle of Wight), a species classified as extinct for 30 years but now thought to be rejuvenating because of rising temperatures.

Matt uses 3-D printer technology to produce custom-made prosthetic hands, arms and upper body prosthetic devices free of charge, for children and adults around the world. He has produced 27,000 prosthetic devices and 26,000 free design downloads in more than 50 countries. Free 3-D Hands is located in Phillip Island, Victoria.
