Rotary Club of Griffith Avanti

Rotary Club of Griffith Avanti Meetings usually Thursdays 7am in the Conference Room at The Quest, 53 Railway Street, Griffith. Email [email protected] or [email protected]

Rotarians are community members, business and professional leaders who take an active role in the local and global community. The Griffith Avanti Rotary club contains a diverse group of people from our community and we are proud of this fact. Rotary is a non religious, multicultural organisation for adults of all ages . This page provides some insights into our work and enjoyment, and links to the

world of Rotary International - a world-wide organization of community volunteers who wish to help others. Why would you want to be a Rotarian? First, but not mostly, Rotary is fun! Working with like minded people to better the lives of others is a great and satisfying thing to do. If you’d like to meet people and work on community projects to better other people’s lives then this club is for you. You have the opportunity to meet once a week, listen to a good program, or work together on a project with people you can feel at home while you live Rotary. Come to a meeting and see how it all works. We look forward to seeing you soon.

🌍 This Thursday: Guest Speaker Kristy Richards

Thursday 18 June, 6.30pm at Exies Sporties, we’re delighted to welcome Kristy Richards, an experienced midwife and global health advocate, to our Rotary Avanti dinner meeting.

Kristy will be sharing insights from her work with the Global Midwife Education Project in Kenya — a program dedicated to improving maternal health, strengthening midwifery training, and supporting safe births in vulnerable communities.

An inspiring initiative that shows how skilled midwives can transform outcomes for mothers and babies. We’re looking forward to hearing Kristy’s firsthand experiences and the impact this work is having on families in Kawangware and beyond.
Guests are always welcome.
See you at the Exies Sporties, Thursday at 6.30pm.

Avanti Rotary doing good… one lid at a time!

Last week, Val delivered 7 boxes (35kg!) of steel lids, 2 boxes of wine caps, plus a bag of ring pulls and pull tops to Lids4Kids Canberra.Tim, the CEO, asked us to pass on his heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed. Our club’s small actions create big impact.
The scrap metal is sold to help fund the project — and even better, Lids4Kids now employs three people with disabilities and welcomes groups who help sort plastic lids by colour. A brilliant blend of recycling, inclusion and community spirit.
Avanti Rotary loves supporting projects that mix service, fun and heart.
Please note, we no longer collect coloured plastic lids, but we’re still collecting:
✓stubby lids
✓wine caps
✓ring pulls
✓pull tops
Keep them coming — they really do make a difference. 💛

Avanti Rotary – Serving with heart, energy and impact! 💛💙

Our 2025–2026 donations total is now $27,574 — an incredible effort that reflects the generosity and commitment of our members and supporters. In the coming months, our funding recipients will be invited to attend a meeting and share a short presentation about their service or cause. It’s always inspiring to hear how these contributions make a difference.

Our newest member Jodie has already hit the ground running, presenting a proposal to partner with local food relief services to support their delivery operations. She’ll share the full proposal with the club in a couple of weeks.

Vicki has been liaising with teachers at Marian Catholic College about opportunities for students to attend the Rotary‑sponsored Science Forum — a brilliant pathway for young people passionate about STEM.

We will also continue to support Sara from the School of St Jude in Tanzania as she completes her post‑school year and explores her next steps in study and career.

Digital Retina Scanner Update:
Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service (GAMS) has screened 268 people so far this year, with more towns still to visit. This specialised camera examines both the front and back of the retina to detect early abnormalities. It’s wonderful to see this equipment — sponsored by our local Rotary clubs together with Turramurra Rotary — making such a meaningful impact on early eye health detection.

Our Bat4Battery program continues to thrive, thanks to Peter’s tireless efforts in sourcing batteries across the region — including recent pickups in Leeton. Income from this program supports local, national and international projects.

This Thursday’s dinner meeting will feature two presentations:

✓Kidney Health — valuable information for all ages.

✓FREMO Medical Birth Centre, Kawangware–Nairobi, Kenya — a centre built by Moffatt and a small team of helpers who, despite limited resources, were driven by a passion to serve humanity and uphold the dignity of every woman.

And finally… get the balloons and streamers ready! 🎈
We’ll soon be welcoming two new members to Avanti Rotary. 🍰

Word is spreading — life is good at Avanti, and our club spirit is stronger than ever.🎈

Today we congratulate an incredible milestone by the Griffith Trauma Teddies Knitters and Crotcheters Club who have created 5,000 handmade bears.
Four years ago, a simple idea was shared… and Pat Zandona turned that idea into something real, comforting and powerful. From a handful of women to a room full of makers, the Griffith Trauma Teddies Red Cross branch now lovingly knits and crochets bears that find their way to hospitals, medical centres, paramedics, emergency teams and support services — including those responding to tragic events like Bondi and Gaza. These little bears carry big magic.
They bring comfort to children in distress and help the helpers do what they do best. What an extraordinary achievement.🧸

Let's support this project.

We’re on the lookout for unwanted adult jeans with pockets for a special sewing project!

If you have any old or unused adult denim jeans, we’d love to give them a new life. Jeans with intact pockets are especially welcome, as they’ll be repurposed into something creative and useful.

All sizes and gently worn conditions are appreciated.

Please drop donations to Shop 1, 50-56 Banna Ave.

Thank you for helping us turn something old into something new 💙

At Rotary Cub of Griffith Avanti, what you see is BBQs, community projects and good vibes… but what you get goes way deeper.

Friendships, skills, teamwork, travel — and yes, plenty of laughs, socials and the odd sing‑along.
We’re people of action and people of fun. Come see what’s beneath the surface.
