...A Dream Car with a Story to Tell...
Originally built by Bob Milburn in the early 1970s, this ’23 Ford T-Bucket was ahead of its time, featuring graphics by Dave Hart that turned heads at the Sydney Hot Rod Show in the mid-70s. The paintwork still on the car dates back to around 1975.
After sitting off the road for nearly 40 years, the Bucket found a new lease on life when David Peters, affectionately known as Laurel from Little Bit Country Rodders, bought it without an engine or gearbox. Laurel rebuilt it for registration and enjoyed plenty of runs down the drags, clocking an impressive 13.0-second pass before it became a little too quick for comfort. And yes, he even changed into a Santa suit at the track!
In early 2025, Laurel offered the car to Mark, better known as Millsy, and Amanda, knowing how much they both loved it and wanting to keep it within the club. They brought home their dream car that Easter, making memories together before Millsy sadly passed away just four months later.
Millsy had always loved Griffith’s Biggest Lap, and after 12 months of the Bucket being tucked away, Amanda decided it was time to get it back on the road. With a few gentle nudges from family, she tackled everything from getting it blue-slipped to changing the battery, sorting the fuel, cleaning the plugs and preparing it for the road again.
It wasn't easy, and there were plenty of tears along the way, but she knew Millsy would be watching and saying, “You got this, chick.”
Millsy had always said, “If I ever drop dead, make sure you burn me and take me cruising.” So that's exactly what she did. Griffith’s Biggest Lap became the Bucket's first cruise since his passing, with Millsy riding along in the passenger seat — in a decorative wooden box that he would have absolutely loved!
Sadly, the Lap marked the first time the Bucket had been driven since Millsy's final ride in September 2025, when it followed his hearse alongside their other cars and fellow club members.
Under the bonnet sits a 302 Windsor V8, complete with a big cam, alloy heads and a C4 automatic transmission.
More than just a hot rod, this T-Bucket carries decades of history, a lifetime of memories and a love story that continues every time it hits the road.
Thank you so again much for sharing your Story. ❤️ There’s so much more to these cars than what’s under the bonnet, and yours carries such a beautiful story of love, memories and keeping Millsy’s spirit alive. We’re honoured you chose to share it with us and that Griffith’s Biggest Lap could be part of such a special moment. Here’s to many more cruises with Millsy riding sh***un. ❤️🏁
