Grantham Butter Factory

Grantham Butter Factory A community asset managed by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council, developed and gifted by the Rotary club of Toowoomba South and generous supporters.

Grantham's 1900's era Butter Factory, decommissioned four decades ago, became the town's new community centre, formalising the role the building played in the hours and weeks following the January 2011 flooding disaster, and once again became a central focal point for this proud agricultural comunity.

Foodservice design company FOOD STRATEGY has designed a commercial kitchen for the Grantham Butter Factory community centre project.
Design brief: to create a commercial kitchen, incorporating a cafe / restaurant which can also operate as a reception and function centre in the main hall.
Due to the variety of groups and skills that would be using the facilities (i.e. chefs, cooks, volunteers), efficiencies in the café were considered carefully. Additional equipment and plating spaces for functions were included which can double as café food preparation benches during normal serving Monday to Friday.

Food Strategy, have put together an excellent article and video on the project. You can read the entire article and view the video by clicking on the link below.

Murphy's Creek Community Centre opening - 09/02/2013
During the devastating flood that hit the Lockyer Valley in January 2011 the community of Murphys Creek suffered a similar fate to the community of Grantham, and in a similar manner to what the Rotary Club of Toowoomba South is doing with the renovation of the Grantham Butter Factory, for the last two years the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East has been working very hard to provide a community centre for the people of Murphy's Creek.

That project is now close to completion and the official opening is planned for Saturday 9th Feb 2013.

The Club has issued an official invitation to attend the opening. That invitation can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
