Two years ago, the Woombah community set out to build a shelter. On Saturday 15 August, they're opening it with a full afternoon of live music under the trees.

The Woombah Shelter is already doing exactly what it was built for. Kids playing handball before school and after, while waiting for the bus. Gatherings when the rain sets in. Plants taking hold. Now it's getting its finishing touch: 'Wadyarr Connections', an artwork by Frances Belle Parker - Visual Artist, unveiled at the official opening.

Northern Rivers Community Resilience Alliance is proud to be apart of the opening day through the generosity of NRMA Insurance, The Help Fund Participatory Granting Project of $10,000 alongside the support Clarence Valley Council and Fire to Flourish - Clarence Valley. But the real credit goes to the Woombah Residents Association and everyone who showed up, again and again, over two years to make this happen.

That's what community-led resilience looks like. Not a plan on paper. A shelter that kids are already playing under.

Live music from the Clarence Valley Community Choirs, Maclean Highschool band, Soul Tone, and Pandanus Steelband. Food and coffee from local vendors. Free, family friendly, everyone welcome.

Bring a chair, a rug, some cash for the food stalls, and a torch for the walk back to the car once the sun goes down.

Come celebrate with the Woombah community.
