With two semi final games played for two losses over the weekend the GDSC Easts Cricket Club is hoping for a better result in the Final of the Night Competition on Wednesday evening.

🏏 On Thursday & Friday afternoon the GDSC Easts Grafton Signart U17 Team went down to Tucabia Copmanhurst by 57 runs.

After winning the toss the Tucabia Copmanhurst Team elected to bat and after there allocated 40 overs scored 145 runs with the last wicket falling on the last ball.

In reply the GDSC Easts Team struggled from the outset but with a fantastic 9 wicket partnership between Jason Burling (32) and Oliver Waite (12) put some respectability back into the score board.

However in the end the Team was all out for 88 runs in the 39th over.

Big thank you must go out to Coach Michael Cooper and his support staff, the players & parents and of course our great sponsor Janet & Terry from Grafton Signart.

🏏 In the 2nd Grade Semi Final played in overcast conditions on Saturday afternoon the GDSC Easts Clarence Valley Sheds Team lost to Coutts Crossing by 86 runs.

In this game Coutts Crossing won the toss and elected to bat scoring 7 for 170 from their 40 overs.

Best of the GDSC Easts bowlers was Ryan Gillett who finished with the great figures of 3 wickets for 12 off 8 overs.

With the bat the GDSC East Team just couldn’t get going or put together any strong partnerships. In the end the team was all out in the 30th over for 84 runs.

The GDSC East Cricket club would like to thank Sean Waite & Jeff Rainbow for managing the Team and all the players who played during the season.

🏆GDSC Easts Cricket Club Senior Weekly Wrap Up – 08.02.2026

Weekly Overview

Saturday afternoon the 7th February 2026 saw the continuation of the GDSC Easts 1st Grade game against Lawrence, with the GDSC Easts Team coming up short in their run chase by 55 runs.

In 2nd Grade the GDSC Easts continued their winning way with an excellent 5 wicket win against Westlawn whilst the GDSC Easts 3rd Grade Team are continuing to improve with every game but on this occasion went down to Lawrence by 7 wickets.

🏏1st Grade – Match Report

Saturday the 7th February 2026 saw the continuation of the 2day game against Lawrence at Ellem Oval, Grafton.

The previous week Lawrence had made 8 for 216 from their allocated 80 overs.

In reply the GDSC Easts Rob Care’s & Support Team were all out in the 45th over for 161 runs, 55 runs behind.

The GDSC Easts side started well with an opening partnership of 45 runs between Tom Gerrard and Matthew Lobsey. However, the partnership was broken in the 10th over when Tom Gerrard (25) was caught out off the bowling of Caleb Shaw.

Two overs later, Matthew Lobsey (15) was bowled by Caleb Shaw leaving the GDSC Easts Team 2 for 50.

Shannon Connor & Max Forwell took the score to 79 before Forwell (2) was caught by Nathan Williams off the bowling of Doug Harris.

Shannon Connor continued to make quick runs, bringing up his 50 in the 23rd over but by the 26th over he was out for 60 to the Rouse brother’s caught Darby bowled Charlie. Shannon faced 58 balls and hit 5 sixes and 4 fours. GDSC Easts 4/119 requiring just under 100 runs to win with a massive 53 overs left.

However, with the wicket of Shannon, the Lawrence Team let out a collective sigh knowing that the danger man had been dismissed and any hope of a GDSC Easts win might have went with him.

As it turned out their prediction was spot on as the remaining GDSC Easts batters made only a further 42 runs to be all out in the 45th over for 161. Elijah Waite remained 15* runs not out.

For the Lawrence bowlers, the veteran Ben Shaw, turned back the clock, finishing with 3/27 off 13.3 overs, Charlie Rouse 3/23 off 10 overs, young Caleb Shaw 2/22 off 5 and Doug Harris 1/37 off 4 who took the brunt of Shannon’s big hitting.

With only two 2day games left the GDSC East 1st Grade Team are sitting just 3 points outside the top four and must beat Maclean & Harwood to secure a semi-final berth.

🏏2nd Grade – Match Report

Unlike their 1st Grade associates, the GDSC Easts Clarence Valley Sheds 2nd Grade Team was able to secure a top 4 finish with their strong win against Westlawn on Saturday afternoon the 7th February 2026 at their home of cricket JJ Lawrence Turf.

Westlawn after winning the toss elected to bat, but had a day that they would rather forget, after been bowled out for just 65 runs in 20 overs. Their last 5 batters making just 4 runs. Ethan Munro was the standout batter remaining stranded 25* not out.

This is not to take any thing away from the GDSC Easts bowlers & fielders who had a fantastic day out. The bowlers looked the goods with great line and length, whilst the fielders supported their bowlers with five catches.

Both Ryan Gillett (3/27 off 6) & Daniel lavender (2/32 off 8) did the heavy lifting early but were well supported by Jeff “Roll-over” Rainbow (3/10 off 4) and David Lollack (2/2 off 2) who cleaned up the tail.

In reply the GDSC Easts opening batters again got off to their usual bad start losing David Lollback (4), Reece Easterbrook (6) and the experiment gone wrong, Shane “The Finisher” Pitt (0) leaving GDSC Easts 3/12 off 6 overs.

With the return of Captain Sean Waite (28), from a badly fractured finger & Sam Lollback (12), the pair got the Team back on track with a respectable 42 run partnership before both lost their wickets with the finish line in sight.

In the end it was left to Ryan Gillet (2*) and Michael Cooper (8*) in the 17th over to complete the win.

For the Westlawn Team, Ethan Munro (2/11), Priyan Hemachandra (1/8) & Hugh Inmon (1/15) were the wicket takers.
With 4 games left, the GDSC Easts 2nd Grade team play the top 3 teams so it will give them a good understanding of how they are going and whether they can push deep into the final’s when they come about.

🏏3rd Grade – Match Report

With just the one win for the season, at this stage, you would think that the GDSC Easts Archie’s Chicken 3rd Grade Team were not enjoying their cricket. Far from it.

The players appreciate each other’s company, the banter that comes with it and then there is that general love of the game which brings them back each week. They understand that their enthusiasm for the sport outweighs their ability but there is that opportunity to score runs and take wickets. Winning is nice but not everything.

So, on Saturday the 7th February 2026 the GDSC Easts 3rd Grade team took on Lawrence at Lower Fisher synthetic. After winning the toss, the GDSC Easts Team elected to bat sending out young Leevii Maxwell and Yashwanth Kumar to open the batting against the young and upcoming Lawrence bowlers.

In the 3rd over Yashwanth Kumar (5) was caught by Giuseppe Terranova off the bowling of Jed Chevalley.

This brought Noah Rainbow to the crease. In his last outing Noah made his top score of 24 so there was a lot of pressure on him to repeat that innings. Unfortunately, Thomas Brady-Smith didn’t read the script, and he had Noah caught out 2 overs later for just the 1 run.

Jason Burling joined Leevii and the two U17 players were keen to build a partnership but with the introduction of Harry Shaw into the attack he soon made in roads. Firstly, taking the wicket of Leevii (7) and secondly that of Jarod Gardiner (0) in his next over. By the 10 over the GDSC Easts Team were 4/20

Peter Gardiner came in and he and Jason Burling (10) moved the score onto 31, when Jason was caught by Harry Shaw off the bowling of Tomas Green. In Green’s next over he had the new batter Bryce Robinson (0) out, caught Harry Shaw again.

GDSC Easts 6/33.

At the start of the 19th over there was a mix up with the batters which eventuated in Peter Gardiner (2) getting run out. The captain, Chris Gardiner (0) came in and went cheaply in the same over before Justin Stone and Brendan Palmer steadied the ship for a very welcome 46 run 8th wicket partnership.

When Brendan (18) was out on the 2nd last ball of the 30 over innings the score was 9/81. Last man in, Bevan Blackadder, did what every number 11 batter does with 1 ball to face, closed his eyes and swung the bat. On this occasion the ball hit the bat, and Bevan scored a four taking the Team’s total to 9/85.

In reply the GDSC Easts experienced opening bowlers of Beven Blackadder and Brendan Palmer both took an early wicket each to have Lawrence 2/6 after 3 overs. After this however the wickets dried up until the 14th over when Justin Stone had Thomas Brady-Smith (17) caught out.

It was then left to Harry Shaw (34*) not out and Giuseppe Terranova (20*) not out to take home the win in the 17th over.

🏆GDSC Easts Cricket Club Senior Weekly Wrap Up – 01/02/2026
On Saturday afternoon, 31st January 2026, the three senior GDSC Easts teams produced a variety of results in their respective matches.
The 1st Grade side commenced the first day of their two-day fixture against Lawrence, spending the afternoon fielding, while both 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade took on teams from Tucabia Copmanhurst cricket club. 2nd Grade secured a convincing win, but 3rd Grade unfortunately suffered a loss.

🥇Weekend Highlights
The weekend was highlighted by three standout individual performances: James Watters notched up a century in 2nd Grade, while Shannon Connor (1st Grade) and William Palmer (2nd Grade) each claimed a five-wicket haul.
🏏1st Grade – Match Report
On Saturday, 31st January 2026, the GDSC Easts Rob Care’s & Support Team played off against Lawrence in Round 12 of the CRCA Competition, the two-day game taking place at Ellem Oval.
Following a loss to Iluka in their previous two-day encounter, the GDSC Easts side was forced to make several changes, with Andrew Kinnane and Theo Lobsey unavailable and replaced by Tom Gerrard and Sam Palmer.
Lawrence won the toss and chose to bat, with Shannon Connor and Gus Lobsey opening the bowling attack. Shannon struck early in the 5th over, bowling Darby Rouse for 7, leaving Lawrence at 1 for 13.
After Gus Lobsey’s initial six-over spell, he was replaced, with Lawrence’s batters relieved to see him off.
By the 14th over, Lawrence had cautiously moved to 1 for 21.
Max Forwell joined Shannon in the attack, and together they made the batters fight for their runs.

On the final ball of the 21st over, Shannon had Hamish Pearce (5) caught by Blake Nelson, reducing Lawrence to 2 for 40.
On the first ball of his next over, Shannon claimed the big wicket of Nathan Ensbey for a golden duck, caught by Sam Palmer, with Lawrence now 3 for 42 and Shannon on a hat-trick.
The hat-trick eluded him, but Shannon’s persistence paid off again at the end of his 16th consecutive over, dismissing Sam Ensbey (5), caught by Tom Gerrard. Lawrence stood at 4 for 56 after 31 overs.
As the afternoon heat intensified, wickets became harder to come by, and Lawrence’s batters, Mark Ensbey (opening) and Charlie Rouse, forged a solid 62-run partnership for the 5th wicket.
The partnership was broken when Shannon claimed his fifth wicket in the 26th over, trapping Mark Ensbey (55) LBW, making it 5 for 118 in the 51st over.
In the following over, David Bruton-Duroux had Charlie Rouse (35) stumped thanks to sharp work by John Martin, bringing Lawrence to 6 for 118 after 52 overs.
Just as it seemed GDSC Easts might wrap up the innings, Doug Harris arrived at the crease and shifted the momentum.
By the end of the 57th over, Shannon had bowled his 29th consecutive over, conceding 12 runs in that final over before the ball was prized from his hand.
Shannon finished with outstanding figures of 5/62 from 29 overs, including 10 maidens and an economy rate of 2.13.
Gus Lobsey and Luke Hayman took over bowling duties, with Gus removing Jordan Gallagher (3) in the next over, leaving Lawrence at 7/132 after 58 overs.
Nathan Williams, batting at number 9, partnered Doug Harris, and together they put the tired GDSC Easts bowlers and fielders under pressure.
The duo added a valuable 73-run partnership across 19 overs, ending in the 77th over when Max Forwell bowled Harris for 55, with 30 of his runs coming from boundaries.
Lawrence reached 8/205 at that point.
By the conclusion of the 80th over, Lawrence had posted 8/216 with Nathan Williams (27*) and Jack Cheney (7*) unbeaten at the crease.
Among the GDSC Easts bowlers, aside from Shannon’s efforts, Gus Lobsey finished with 1/12 from 14 overs, Max Forwell 1/28 from 6, David Bruton-Duroux 1/48 from 12, Luke Hayman 0/20 off 9, Elijah Waite 0/22 off 6, and Matthew Lobsey 0/14 off 4.
Next week, attention will turn to the GDSC Easts batters to chase down the target and secure the lollies.
🏏2nd Grade – Match Report

Needing a win to cement their hold on 4th place on the ladder, the GDSC Easts Clarence Valley Sheds Team put on a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, 31st January 2026, defeating the Tucabia Copmanhurst side by 116 runs in Round 13 of the CRCA 2nd Grade Competition.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat on the JJ Lawrence turf, openers Reece Easterbrook and David Lollback got the team off to their usual poor start when Easterbrook was caught out in the first over leaving the side 1 for 4.
This brought James (Jimmy) Watters to the crease, and he quickly found his rhythm alongside Lollback.
The pair combined for a superb 145-run partnership for the second wicket, which ended in the 28th over when Lollback was caught by Matthew Summers off Jesse Piper’s bowling for 52 runs (87 balls, 3 fours).
GDSC Easts were 2/149 at that point.
William Palmer joined Watters, and together they took the score to 174, with Watters reaching his century with a four in the 30th over.
In the following over, Palmer (3) was caught by Addison Brown off Daniel Moar’s bowling. Two balls later, Moar claimed another wicket, dismissing the designated big hitter Jeff Rainbow (0), when he misfired and was caught by Jordan Piper.
GDSC Easts were now 4/174.
Ryan Gillet, batting at number 6, shared a 28-run partnership with Watters until the 36th over when Addison Brown had Watters caught by Pippa Brown.
Watters’ innings was outstanding, scoring 124 runs from 102 balls, including 19 fours and a six.
By the 40th over, GDSC Easts had reached 6/226, with Ryan Gillett (22), Michael Cooper (7*) and David Clark (3*) not out.
For Tucabia Copmanhurst, nine bowlers were used.
Notable bowling figures included Addison Brown (2/43 off eight), Daniel Moar (2/26 off 6), Brodie Henderson (1/40 off eight), and Jesse Piper (1/20 off 5).
Six fielders contributed catches during the match.
In reply, Tucabia Copmanhurst’s batters struggled to build partnerships, except for a 33-run stand between Ethan Biele (eight) and top scorer Matthew Brown (53) for the second wicket, and a late 29-run partnership between Jordan Piper (7) and Brodie Henderson (21*).
By the 34th over, the side was all out for 110.
The best of the GDSC Easts bowlers was William Palmer, who finished with 5/20 from just 5.5 overs, and Jeff Rainbow, who claimed 3/27 from eight overs.
🏏3rd Grade – Match Report
On Saturday afternoon, 31st January 2026, the GDSC Easts Archie’s Chicken Team travelled to Brushgrove to face the Tucabia Copmanhurst B&S Kitchen Team.
Throughout the week, the 3rd Grade side experienced the usual player movement, with some players moving up a grade to fill gaps. However, by Saturday, the team had a full complement of 11 players.
Unfortunately, victory eluded the struggling side as they went down by 10 wickets to a strong team sitting 4th on the ladder.
Tucabia Copmanhurst won the toss and sent GDSC Easts in to bat in their 11th Round CRCA 3rd Grade competition match, which features eight teams.
After their allotted 30 overs, GDSC Easts managed 73 runs for the loss of nine wickets, with Noah Rainbow top-scoring with 24 runs.
For Tucabia Copmanhurst, the bowling honours were shared: Shame Humpherys (3/9 off 5), Joseph Lloyd (2/8 off 5), Henry McGrath (1/16 off 5), William Cootes (1/12 off 5), and Hayden Ryder (1/6 off 2).
Five fielders took catches: Shane Humpherys, Hayden Ryder, Jason O’Hara, Barton McGrath, and Jesses Brotherson, with William Cootes and Henry McGrath involved in a run out.
During the run chase, the Tucabia Copmanhurst batters achieved the required total in just 12 overs, scoring 74 runs without losing a wicket.
The bulk of the runs came from Jesses Brotherson (37*, retired not out) and Jason O’Hara (32*, not out).
