Gordonvale Lions We are a club that has a lot of fun
We greatly enjoy our interaction with the Lions from other clubs and the public through our fundraising activities

Gordonvale Lions Club meets at 7.30pm on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at our own clubhouse located beside the the Gordonvale Race and Golf Clubs. For meeting bookings please send us a message on here or [email protected]

Our major sources of fundraising for the club are our food van, weekly raffles and hire of our equipment. The club has available for hire at very competi

tive rates:

* Barbeques, tables and chairs

* Sno cone machine

* Air Conditioned club house including kitchen facilities, tables, chairs and a data projector with screen for presentations

*A Merry Go Round for children

* Our food van is for hire but only within the local area and can only be staffed/run by current Gordonvale Lions members

Our club is part of Lions district 201Q2 and has a major focus on providing support to our local community. We cater at the Great Pyramid Race, functions for Canegrowers and Fire Brigade, local sporting functions and Carols by Candlelight in our local park in the center of the town. We join with other clubs in our district and use our food van to cater at the Relay for Life and the Townsville to Cairns Great Bike Ride. Both of these events are very significant with each one raising over $500,000 for the organisers with proceeds going to cancer research. So far to date from our club being chartered in 1968 we have made donations to our local community close to 1 million dollars so far and climbing all the time.

Each year, the Lions Clubs of Cairns come together to celebrate their outgoing executives and welcome new leaders, highlighting the commitment of individual dedication to the collective good. Heartfelt appreciation to outgoing Vice President Glenn Pope and Treasurer Karen Jacobs for their service to our community. Your love and commitment is truely valued. Warm welcome to the newly appointed and returning team members: President Peter Conlon, Vice President Mark Gray, Treasurer Sandra Miller, and Secretary Wendy Quinn, Lion Tamer Richard Hesp. Your willingness to give back to your community is a beautiful demonstration of what makes community work well. Congratulations also to Glenn Pope who has taken on role as Zone Chair, that will see greater connection and collaboration across clubs.

As a club we are proud to support the community of Gordonvale. We fundraise to help our community continue to provide opportunities and positive experiences for all. It is also our hope that our contribution will demonstrate our appreciation of the work of others such as the Gordonvale Girl Guides who invest their time, love and energy into the wellbeing of our young people. Thanks so much Girl Guides!

Last year, Gordonvale Lion, Lorraine presented a $500 cheque to the Gordonvale Guides to assist with their fundraising efforts and as part of the Gordonvale Lions Annual distribution of ommunity funds.

Students thank you for your willingness to be challenged in the Cairns Zone - Lions Youth of Year! Congratulations to St Augustine's College, Cairns State High School, St Mary's Catholic College and Gordonvale State High School your students demonstrated commitment to the pursuit of excellence, community spirit and intergenerational connections.
