🐊 Be Croc Aware 🐊

Our Junior Ranger Coordinator, Neal, recently visited Aloomba State School to deliver an engaging talk on being Croc Aware.

The students showed great interest in learning how to stay safe around our local waterways.
It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and participation from the young people throughout the session. They even shared some of their own Croc stories and experiences, which made for a fun and interactive session!

These visits are a great opportunity to share important safety messages and help build awareness from a young age.

Please be aware of the recent detection of yellow crazy ants along the Gillies Range Road and Robson Track area.

We encourage everyone visiting or travelling through the area to take extra care and help prevent the spread of this invasive species across Country.

⚠️ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 ⚠️

Yellow crazy ants have been detected along the 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 and the 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸.

This popular hiking trail connects the Gillies Range to the Atherton Tablelands and we urge all visitors to remain highly vigilant when travelling through the area.

Please 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 from the area, as yellow crazy ants can easily nest inside these materials and be accidentally spread to new locations.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮:

👉check footwear, gear, and equipment before leaving

🌱avoid disturbing vegetation or moving materials

Yellow crazy ants are golden-brown, between 3mm - 4mm long, with long legs and antennae. When disturbed, they move in a frantic, erratic manner.

A big thank you to the Gordonvale State High School Certificate III Conservation and Ecosystem Management students for their efforts during our recent creek clean-up in the Little Mulgrave area 🌿👏

Together, more than a dozen bags of rubbish were collected, along with a few unusual items discovered along the way!

The Jawajawa Rangers Creek Clean Project is delivered in partnership with Cairns Regional Council.

CREEK CLEAN WITH JAWAJAWA RANGERS

Thursday 30th of April saw our Certificate III Conservation and Ecosystem Management students working with the JawaJawa Rangers conducting a creek clean in the Little Mulgrave area.

Our students moved along the headland and along the creek picking up rubbish filling up a dozen bags! Some of the odd finds were bowls, cutlery and a suspension coil.

It was wonderful to see so many incredible services coming together to support and care for our community. We had a fantastic time connecting with families, sharing conversations, and showcasing the important work we do on Country.

Plastic Bottle Collection for Youth Camp
We’re getting ready for our upcoming Youth Camp and need your help!

We are collecting:
♻️ Clean and empty 600ml plastic Coca-Cola bottles
These bottles will be used for activities and learning experiences during camp.
