Goorambat Veterans Retreat Inc. extends our sincere thanks to the Benalla Lions Club Inc for their very generous $500 donation.

The Lions Club has been a valued supporter of the Retreat since our early days, and we are deeply grateful for their continued annual support of our veteran community.

It is heartening to know that service organisations such as Lions continue to stand beside our veterans with such respect, generosity, and community spirit.

Thank you, Benalla Lions Club Inc., for your ongoing commitment to supporting those who have served.

We had a great turnout for our recent Su***de Awareness Workshop conducted at the Retreat, and thanks to our facilitator, Sonja Bottern from LivingWorks AustraliaLivingWorks Australia, for her assistance. We are grateful to Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling Service for funding this activity. Those who weren't photo-shy gave us this photo opportunity, and if you couldn't join us for this one, just keep an eye out for another of our mental health-related workshops later this year.

Our Kubota Zero-turn mower is up for sale as we are downsizing to a smaller mower now that our gardens are more established and there are fewer grassed areas to maintain.

It was a great ANZAC Day this year with our ambassadors, Steve & Mary-Ann Romano & Brett Dudley, attending the for their annual Spirit of ANZAC golf tournament. The activity was well attended and succeeded in raising a whopping $4,860 donation to assist the Retreat in supporting our veterans in need. Our sincere thanks to veteran Mick Patrick and his crew for their amazing effort in conducting this annual event. The Club has been supporting the Retreat for 4 years now and in that time they have raised more than $17k for our Veteran community.

Meanwhile, three of our Committee members, Phil & Joanne Thomson, Anthony Stevenson and one of our more senior general members, Roger Buckingham, enjoyed the service and hospitality of the Seaford RSL. The fine weather brought the locals outdoors and public attendance at the 10am service was in the thousands.

As we approach ANZAC Day on 25th April, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of all Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women.

At Goorambat Veterans Retreat, we recognise the importance of remembering those who served, those who gave so much, and the families who stood beside them.

This year, we have decided not to hold a service at the Retreat so that we can support those RSL Sub-Branches that go to great lengths to host activities on this important day. A number of our committee members will be attending services at the Seaford Rsl and others will be representing us at the Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club annual Spirit of Anzac Tournament. Proceeds from this event are generously donated to our Retreat and have previously raised more than $12,000 to assist our Veterans in need.

Lest we forget.

We are proud to share that Goorambat Veterans’ Retreat Incorporated has been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Victorian Government’s Veterans Capital Works Grant 2025–26. The funding will support Phase 3 of our Veterans Emergency Accommodation Project, including the long-awaited renovation of the two ensuite bathrooms in the cabins donated to us by the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort and assisted by Yarra Mul RSL and Goat Troop, 22nd Engineer Regiment - Australian Army, back in 2023. This grant will also fund an upgrade of external security and safety cameras at the Retreat, which will give peace of mind to those Veterans using our facilities.

This important investment will help us continue improving the safety, comfort and functionality of our retreat for veterans, their families and our wider community. It is another meaningful step forward in strengthening the support environment we provide here at Goorambat.

We sincerely thank the Victorian Government and the Minister for Veterans, Natalie Suleyman MP , and the Victorian Veterans Council - VVC for supporting this initiative and recognising the value of the work being done at Goorambat Veterans’ Retreat.

We also thank all of you who continue to support our mission to provide a safe, welcoming, and restorative place for veterans and their families.

We recently hosted the Victorian Chapter of the Patriots Military Motorcycle Club. Patriots Australia is a motorcycle club for current, former, and reserve Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and allies, with active representation in Victoria. Established in 1993, the club is a family-oriented, non-territorial organisation focused on camaraderie, supporting veteran welfare, and riding, with a presence throughout Australia. The team had a great time and has rebooked our venue to hold their AGM in 2027.
