Today, members of the Rotary Club of Goolwa attended the Club Leaders Learning Seminar at St Michael's College.

Our current President, Debbie, Secretary and President-Elect, Tamara, and Director of Public Image and President-Elect Nominee, Sonia, enjoyed a wonderful day connecting with fellow Rotarians, sharing ideas, and gaining valuable knowledge and insights that they look forward to bringing back and implementing within our club.

Professional development and continuous learning are vital to ensuring our club continues to grow, serve our community, and make a positive impact.

We are also excited to share Rotary's new motto for 2026โ€“2027:

โœจ Create Lasting Impact โœจ

We look forward to embracing this inspiring theme as we continue our Rotary journey together and work to make a meaningful difference in our community.

Jim Pilkington, incoming President of the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn, and Tamara McRobbie (Tammy Hampton), incoming President of the Rotary Club of Goolwa, share a Rotary connection that spans many years. Jim was a member of the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn when the club sponsored Tamara as a Rotary Exchange Student in 1999. Both originally from Strathalbyn, Jim also was the local realestate agent who sold Tamaraโ€™s parents their house.

Now, years later, both are preparing to lead their respective clubs, highlighting the lasting impact of Rotary and the lifelong connections it creates through service, leadership, and understanding.

๐ŸŒŸ This Is Your Year to Volunteer ๐ŸŒŸ

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, itโ€™s a wonderful reminder of just how many ways there are to give back in Goolwa and the surrounding communities. ๐Ÿ’›

Volunteering doesnโ€™t have to look the same for everyone. Whether you have a few hours a month or want to dive right in, there are so many organisations, clubs and community groups doing incredible work and always looking for helping hands.

From sporting clubs, arts groups, environmental projects and emergency services, to schools, service clubs, fundraising events and community organisations, volunteers are the heart of our region.

The Rotary Club of Goolwa is just one of the many ways you can get involved and make a difference. Through Rotary, members contribute to:
๐ŸŒฑ Environmental projects
๐Ÿค Community events and support
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“ Youth programs and leadership
๐ŸŒ International humanitarian projects
๐ŸŽ‰ Fundraising and local initiatives

Volunteering is also a fantastic way to meet people, build friendships, learn new skills and feel connected to your community.

Here are just some of the clubs and organisations to consider volunteering with:
Radio Goolwa Alex - FM
Lions Club of Goolwa
Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club
Goolwa Community Association
Goolwa Bowling Club
Royal Flying Doctors Fleurieu Support Group
Goolwa Community Centre
Goolwa RSL
Fleurieu Community Foundation
Goolwa Art Group

We know that we've probably forgotten to mention some clubs or organisations, so feel free to comment below and tag anyone we've missed that may be needing more volunteers.

If youโ€™ve ever thought about volunteering, maybe this is your sign to give it a go. Big or small, every contribution matters and together, volunteers help make our community such a wonderful place to live. โœจ

๐ŸŒŸ National Volunteer Week โ€“ Meet Kevin Hales ๐ŸŒŸ

As we continue celebrating National Volunteer Week and this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œYour Year to Volunteer,โ€ weโ€™re recognising the incredible dedication of our Rotary members and the many different ways they make a difference. ๐Ÿ’›

Today weโ€™re highlighting Kevin Hales, who has been a proud Rotarian for an amazing 42 years. Over those decades, Kevin has contributed countless hours to Rotary projects and community service, always willing to lend a hand where needed.

For the past 10 years or so, Kevin has played an important role in the Foreign Coin Repatriation Program, helping collect and coordinate foreign coins and notes donated by travellers. Working alongside Geoff Sell and the Rotary Club of Hornsby District, Kevin has helped support an initiative that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for international humanitarian projects, including the Malaria Vaccine Project. ๐ŸŒ

Through the support of the Rotary Club of Goolwa and the dedication of volunteers like Kevin, nearly $15,000 has been donated towards helping create a malaria-free world.

What started as โ€œsmall changeโ€ has gone on to create real change in the lives of people around the world and Kevinโ€™s long-term commitment to this project is a wonderful example of how volunteering can have a global impact.

Thank you, Kevin, for your 42 years of Rotary service and your ongoing dedication to helping others both locally and internationally. ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒŸ National Volunteer Week โ€“ Meet Janet Tapping ๐ŸŒŸ

As part of National Volunteer Week and this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œYour Year to Volunteer,โ€ weโ€™re celebrating the incredible people who help make Rotary such a positive force in our community. ๐Ÿ’›

Today weโ€™re shining a light on Janet Tapping, who has been part of Rotary for 12 years. Janet believes Rotary is simply the most fantastic community organisation, and one of the things she loves most is knowing that the money raised goes exactly where itโ€™s intended, dollar for dollar back into the community and projects we support.

Janet is also a talented local artist, and it was her passion for the arts that inspired our club to hold this yearโ€™s inaugural Goolwa Art Show. ๐ŸŽจ The event was a huge success, showcasing incredible local and regional talent while bringing the community together to celebrate creativity.

Her enthusiasm, ideas and dedication continue to make a wonderful impact within our club and wider community. Janet's craft skills (for card making) and compassion make her the perfect fit as our Welfare Officer too!

Thank you, Janet, for your years of service, creativity and commitment to making a difference. ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒŸ National Volunteer Week โ€“ Meet David McDonald ๐ŸŒŸ

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week and this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œYour Year to Volunteer,โ€ weโ€™re proud to highlight another of our dedicated Rotary members, David McDonald. ๐Ÿ’›

David joined Rotary because he wanted to become more involved in the local community and was invited along by fellow member Alan Williams. Since joining, David has become a passionate and active member of the Rotary Club of Goolwa and now proudly serves as our Director of Community, one of Rotaryโ€™s key areas of focus.

David is always looking for new ways Rotary can connect with and support the community. It was David who came up with the idea of running the Carp-a-thon Fishing Competition, which turned out to be a huge success last year, bringing the community together for a fantastic day of fun, fundraising and connection. ๐ŸŽฃ

Thanks to Davidโ€™s vision and enthusiasm, the event is already shaping up to be even bigger and better this year!

Thank you, David, for your dedication, ideas and commitment to making a positive difference in our community. ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒŸ National Volunteer Week โ€“ Meet Alan Williams ๐ŸŒŸ

As part of National Volunteer Week, weโ€™re celebrating some of our wonderful members who give their time to make a difference in our community. ๐Ÿ’›

This yearโ€™s theme is โ€œYour Year to Volunteerโ€, and today weโ€™re shining a light on Alan Williams, who has been a proud Rotarian for an incredible 40 years.

Alan originally joined Rotary because he wanted to take part in the community and over the past four decades, he has done exactly that. From community projects and events to countless hours volunteering behind the scenes, Alan has dedicated an enormous amount of time and energy to helping others and supporting causes that matter.

His commitment, generosity and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed are a wonderful example of the impact volunteers can have over time. Rotary is built on people like Alan, whose service and community spirit continue to inspire others.

Thank you, Alan, for 40 years of service, friendship and dedication to Rotary and our local community.
