β™»οΈπŸ’Š Did You Know? Your Empty Medication Blister Packs Can Be Recycled! πŸ’Šβ™»οΈ

Most people don't realise that medication blister packs cannot be placed in your household recycling bin because they are made from a combination of plastic and aluminium. Unfortunately, millions end up in landfill every year.

The good news is that Australia now has dedicated recycling programs that allow empty blister packs to be collected and processed, separating the plastic and aluminium so they can be reused in new products.

βœ… Empty tablet and capsule blister packs can be recycled
βœ… Webster-paks and medication packs can also be accepted once all medication has been removed
❌ Do not place blister packs containing medication into recycling collections
Take them to any pharmacy participating in the Return Unwanted Medicines (RUM) program for safe disposal.

At Helen's Haven Healthcare, we're passionate about supporting healthier communities and a healthier environment. Every blister pack recycled is one less item heading to landfill. πŸŒπŸ’š

If you use regular medications, consider collecting your empty packs and taking them to a participating pharmacy recycling point.
Small actions by many people can create a big impact. β™»οΈβœ¨

That’s right - in 2023 people aged 40-49 accounted for 27.4% of unintentional overdose deaths in Australia whereas people aged 20-29 accounted for 8.3%. This period also showed an increase in unintentional overdose deaths in people aged 50-69 too. Overdose doesn’t just affect young people!

πŸ’šπŸ’™ Understanding Prisoner Reintegration Programs πŸ’™πŸ’š

It has come to our attention that many people are unaware of why reintegration programs exist and why charities and community organisations choose to support people leaving correctional facilities.

The simple answer is this: one day, most prisoners return to the community.

When that happens, having stable housing, access to food, support services, employment opportunities, community connections, and positive social networks significantly reduces the chances of reoffending and helps create safer communities for everyone.

Reintegration programs are not about excusing past actions. They are about helping people become productive members of society after they have served their sentence or are legally returning to the community under supervised conditions.

Whether a person is on parole, a good behaviour order, reporting requirements, or wearing an ankle monitor, they still have rights and responsibilities within the community. They have the right to access support services, seek employment, obtain housing, access healthcare, purchase food, and participate in community life within the conditions set by the courts or corrective services.

Many charities provide assistance because they recognise that homelessness, unemployment, social isolation, and lack of support can increase the risk of people falling back into harmful situations.

A stronger community is built when support services, charities, businesses, and community members work together to help people move forward and make positive choices.
Not every person leaving prison will succeed, but every person deserves the opportunity to try.
Supporting reintegration isn't about the past. It's about investing in a safer and stronger future for our entire community.

🧑 Community support can change lives.
🧑 Prevention is often more effective than crisis response.
🧑 Stronger pathways create stronger communities.

Many Australians are aware of the short-term impacts of alcohol, but not so much its long terms impacts.

Drinking won’t always lead to a serious health condition, but it does increase the risk. And the more someone drinks, the higher the risk.

Alcohol is linked to a risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke and other chronic conditions.
