THANK YOU to everyone who attended our recent Fashion Parade to support Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre's Sunny Coast Sleeper!

📣 We're excited to share that we will be donating $1,400 to this amazing program - all thanks to your generosity! 📣

Sunny Coast Sleeper is a converted coach providing a safe, supervised overnight place to sleep for up to nine people who would otherwise be sleeping rough.

We were honoured to hear from Neighbourhood Centre CEO, Mark Ellis, about the incredible impact of the bus service for those homeless in our community. Many of us take for granted the value of a good night's sleep! We're very pleased to contribute to the ongoing operation of this service.

A big thank you to Michele and the team at Onyx Poppy Boutique for your ongoing support and for putting on a fabulous show! 💙 We'd also like to thank Priscilla and the Caloundra Power Boat Club for their generosity in hosting our event.

Earlier this year we held a Pop Up lunch to raise funds for the Dementia Network Sunshine Coast. It was held at Il Matterello Italian restaurant, the food was absolutely delicious. We raised the sum of $400 and at our Fashion Parade last Saturday we were able to present them with the funds. Lorrae O'Rourke, Dementia Network advised that the would be a great help in organising their conference this year in September and also to help obtain a Dementia respite centre on the Sunshine Coast.

🚌 The Sunny Coast Sleeper is an 9 bed converted bus that provides a safe and warm place to sleep for those sleeping rough. The bus is run by volunteers and is equipped with facilities for a refreshing rest, including individual air conditioned pods fitted with a memory foam mattress, comfortable bedding, a toilet, and light with USB charging.

We look forward to supporting the incredible work of Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre's Sunny Coast Sleeper at our upcoming Fashion Parade!

Sunny Coast Sleeper was out supporting our community again this weekend, with 7 people accessing the service in Maroochydore and 3 in Nambour.

Of those in Nambour, 2 are currently employed but still unable to afford a rental in today’s market. It’s a powerful reminder that people experiencing homelessness come from all walks of life — many are working, doing their best, and still finding it incredibly tough to secure stable housing right now. Contrary to public belief, not all people sleeping rough are dealing with alcohol or drug issues; many are simply facing circumstances beyond their control.

Since March and into early April, we’ve also seen some really positive outcomes. Two people who accessed the Sunny Coast Sleeper over that period have now secured accommodation, thanks to collaboration with the IFYS Outreach Homeless Team and the Department of Housing HOME Team.

Another guest, after 8 weeks of consistent rest and support, felt confident enough to apply for work and is now employed part-time. Sadly, like those in Nambour, they are still facing the reality that their income isn’t enough to secure a rental in the current market.

A huge shout out to our incredible volunteers who generously give their time to make sure the Sunny Coast Sleeper continues to provide safe sleeps for people staying on our streets or in their cars. Your commitment truly makes a difference.

Volunteer roles currently available:

Housekeepers – 1 .5 - 2-hour commitment (urgently needed)
Caretakers – overnight commitment (small honorarium payment provided)
Bus Drivers – 1-hour commitment
Drivers Driver – 1-hour commitment
Boarding Volunteers – 2-hour commitment
