Cameron Duce Forever 22

This is a long post, and sorry for the delay in getting it out.

As some of you might be aware, September is a big month for us. We have decided to dedicate the week when Cam was in the GCUH Intensive Care Unit from 22nd to 28th September to being a week that we try and raise awareness about Coward Punches and Coward Strikes as well as remembering and commemorating Cam. We do this down at Burleigh. This was our second year doing this.

Last year, for the first anniversary of Cam's passing we were a bit lost and unsure of what we should do, what we could do and what we wanted to do, so we spent that week sitting in our chairs and talking with people who stopped to chat. We felt we got something positive from talking with others and hearing their stories about others who had been cowardly assaulted with differing outcomes. This made us realise there are hundreds, probably thousands of people who have been coward punched or coward struck or cowardly assaulted in some form, but it is just considered an assault if recorded at all.

So this year we decided to make a bigger statement with a bigger presence and set up a gazebo and "stall" to help spread our personal story and our message a little bit further. We were supported by the Gold Coast City Council who gave us approval to proceed, and the Burleigh Hotel and Miami Tavern who put out coasters and posters with our messaging for that week. We had some extra literature, some flyers with information, cards with website info, some physical products that had our website and QR codes that people could take with them for further information, and we had a visitors book for people to sign.

The week starts early for us, just being at Burleigh remembering Cam, and then we go to Burleigh Headland to watch the sunrise. We were joined by a couple of Cam's mates for the sunrise during that week which was really nice. It is a beautiful spot and it makes us feel good as we watch the sun rise, knowing it was special to Cam as well.

Then we went down to our usual spot. Each day, for the next 7 days. And we sit, we wait, we talk with those who stop, we had visitors, we had friends and family, we had many chats, some for a few minutes and some general public that stayed for hours and sat and chatted with us. We met some amazing people and shared some sad but important stories. We met families that had suffered loss through coward strikes and we heard dozens of others who had suffered or knew someone who had suffered from a coward strike assault.

We have had a number of messages come through to us on our websites, and there were many generous people who made donations to help support us. We went through 100 pens, 20 bucket hats and about 150 stubby coolers that had website or other relevant information on them, as well as printed flyers and cards that people could take. It made us feel that we reached a lot of people and hopefully started a few conversations about how we, the public and community should view coward strikes and those who commit this sort of cowardly act.

As some of you are aware, today is the second anniversary of the passing of Cam. While Sonia and I have had a largely productive and positive week down at Burleigh talking with the public to try and raise awareness about Cam and the consequences of Coward Punches and Coward Strikes, we are now sitting in some rainy weather grieving our loss.

We had wanted to make a positive post about all that we have done this week, but I think that can wait until tomorrow.

Today, right now, at this moment, we are sad for our loss, and we miss our boy. We love you Cammy, forever in our hearts. 😢♥️💔

We are set up for this week in Burleigh, commemorating Cam on the 2nd anniversay of his alleged Coward Strike assault on the 22nd September 2024 until his passing a week later on the 28th.

We are also spreading some awareness about the life changing outcomes of Coward Strikes and having some good conversations with the public, sharing stories and wanting to help prevent anyone else having to go through this.

If you are in the area, come and say hello, we are here from around 10am until 5pm for the week.

We are approaching the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Cam, and we have been busy trying to organise a few initiatives leading up to it.

We will be spending the week from 22nd-28th September at Burleigh to remember and commemorate the week Cam spent in the GCUH ICU.

We wil be setting up a stall to talk with the public and share our story and hear theirs. We have some literature, information and merchandise to give out, so we hope it is a productive week.

Obviously it is emotional for us and it will be draining, but we feel it is the best way we can use this sad event to promote something positive moving foprward. We hope to see some of you during that week 22nd-28th September, down at Burleigh, on the northern end of the main carpark. Please stop by and say hello. We appreciate the support. 💙

I received this message this afternoon from a mate of mine who lives overseas these days. He is in town/Australia for a few days. This what he sent me...

"On the coast to see mum and dad and thought i would go to Burleigh and say hi to Cameron if i could find his tree.

Went for a walk all the way up to the poi t and watched the whales breaching. Couldn't find the tree so I spoke to Cam and said show me the way mate, next minute a local woman walks up to me and starts talking to me about her day swimming here and how should could here the whales talking under water. I told her I was looking for a tree planted for my mates son and what happenned and she tild be to head back to 2nd ave after the pub and thats how i found it. I said thanks Cam and had a few minutes there thinking of him and your family 🙏"

That's a pretty cool story. Thanks for thinking of us mate. ❤️❤️

This morning, the 3rd September 2026, we went to the Brisbane Supreme Court for the first court mention, where the official indictment for the crime of Unlawful Striking Causing Death was presented to the defence.

Today was the first step towards in the Brisbane Supreme Court. While the process largely resets and starts again, it is now in the hands of the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and they will prosecute the indictment on ours and Cameron's behalf in the Brisbane Supreme Court,

We don't expect this to go to trial this year but we will continue to show up for Cam, and we ask that you continue to support us and help us achieve , by following this page and sharing any relevant news with others and asking them to follow this page for updates and information.
