Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service Queensland Operating in Queensland since 1976, the WLRHS provides vital patrol, search and rescue services both on and off the beach.

The WLRHS remains a vital asset to SLSQ's services in South East Queensland. Today, it is a full-time service operating 365 days a year, providing coastal surveillance and search and rescue. Importantly, SLSQ continues to extend and expand upon the service's rescue and surveillance capacity which, in turn, boosts our ability to assist other agencies such as Emergency Management Queensland and national search and rescue body Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

A successful rescue at Mt Barney!

Our Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter crew was tasked to Mt Barney after two German tourists in their 30s became lost and fatigued while hiking.

Lifesaver 46 responded from Carrara, successfully winching both hikers to safety. Thankfully, neither sustained any major injuries, and both were assessed by QAS at the staging area.

A great coordinated effort alongside QPS, QFRS and QAS!

Another successful rescue!

Over the weekend, LS46 conducted a hoist rescue near the Tweed River mouth 🚁

During a proactive surf patrol, the crew spotted a swimmer in distress approximately 100 metres south of the river mouth, struggling to make progress against a rip.

After assessing the situation, a Rescue Crew Officer was winched down to secure the swimmer before both were lifted safely to the beach.

The swimmer was assessed and released in his own care.
