Announcement - Loan of equipment
Bavia House has a number of CCTV electronic magnifiers available to loan to people living with vision impairment. A CCTV (Closed Circuit Television magnifier) is a device that uses a camera and screen to enlarge printed material so it can be read more easily. Documents are placed under the camera and displayed on a screen with adjustable magnification.
Some of the units are newer than others, however they all assist with enlarging text and improving contrast. You can also change background colours to make reading easier. Most units include an X–Y reading tray which allows you to smoothly move documents left, right, forward, and back under the camera. These can be particularly helpful when reading letters, forms, or signing paperwork.
Please note that these devices are quite large, require a stable surface, and need to be plugged into power, so it is important to consider whether you have enough space available at home.
We also have a fully stocked resource room at Bavia House. If you would like to explore different equipment, you are welcome to visit and try things out. We have long canes, cane tips, and a range of daily living aids available to look at and discuss.
Our social group also meets every Wednesday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Each week is a little different. Some weeks we have guest speakers, other weeks include music, games, trivia, or activities such as laughter yoga. We also head out into the community from time to time for lunch. Recently the group visited HOTA for a creative tactile art workshop.
If you would like to loan a CCTV, join our group or have a look at our resource room please contact Bavia on 0452 537 459 or Lisa on 0468 897 262
