What does Arrakis sound like? 🏜️🎼

For Dune, composer Hans Zimmer created a score that feels as vast, otherworldly and immersive as the world on screen.

From haunting vocals and unusual instrumentation to powerful percussion and atmospheric textures, the music doesn't simply accompany the story, it helps build the world itself.

Ready to take your own screen scoring journey further?

One of the biggest reasons Interstellar became one of the most unforgettable sci-fi films ever made wasn't just Christopher Nolan's storytelling or the breathtaking visuals.

It was the music.

Hans Zimmer's score became the emotional heartbeat of the film. Tracks like "Cornfield Chase" and "No Time for Caution" didn't just accompany the scenes, they elevated them, turning moments of silence, sacrifice and hope into something audiences could truly feel.

The music gave space a sense of humanity. It made the impossible feel personal, and the vast emptiness of the universe feel full of emotion.

Even years later, hearing just a few notes from the soundtrack instantly takes people back to the film. That's the mark of a truly iconic score.

It's a reminder that great music doesn't just support a story, it becomes part of its identity.

“It wasn’t just about studying screen composition, it was about understanding that my instincts, my sound world, and my way of approaching music could become the foundation of a career”.

We were lucky enough to ask previous Brian May Scholarship awardee Pru Montin to share some industry insights and advice for aspiring composers.

“Show them your voice. Show them your direction. Show them what you care about”.
