Connect Through Music: Tools for Early Communication & Care

Join in this music month for our free, monthly webinar series - Lunch&Learn. In June we shift focus to using music as a communication tool and as a protective factor in perinatal care.

Join Anne Flood, Director Musicability as she introduces MusicTalk, a creative communication tool using music, even pre-speaking or for non-speaking children.

Lou from our Sing&Grow team then turns the focus to matrescence, sharing how music in the prenatal and perinatal period can support emotional regulation, bonding, and wellbeing for parents and infants alike.

When: Thursday 25 June
Time: 12 noon to 1pm (there will be a live Q&A after each presenter)
Where: Online, free, registrations are essential (recording will be sent post-webinar).

Mabo Day (3 June) is celebrated annually to commemorate Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful advocacy to overturn the idea of terra nullius or 'land belonging to no one' and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' enduring connection to land.

It's an important day to remember and an important story to share with our youngest learners.

For children, this is an opportunity to learn about fairness, identity, and respect for Country. Mabo Day helps us understand that one person’s determination can create lasting change, opening the door for Native Title rights and recognition for future generations.

On this day of national significance, the invitation to learn about Mabo Day which closes out National Reconciliation Week, nurtures children's natural curiosity and fosters respect and, helps our future generations learn about our shared histories.

The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation has a list of educational resources, including lots of music and songs - which are a small snapshot of the incredibly diverse and beautiful Torres Strait Islander Cultures, https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0XH_k0

⚠️Safety Alert: Coloured Sand Product Recall ⚠️

Play Matters Australia is monitoring an urgent recall of coloured sand products imported into Australia that have tested positive for low levels of asbestos (Tremolite and/or Chrysotile).

Although there have been early indications that the risk of exposure is low, it is important to take precautions with all potential exposures. These products are commonly used in early childhood settings and may have been used at playgroups, play experiences and events in the past.

Affected brands include Kadink (Officeworks), Educational Colours, and products from Kmart and Target.
