Whilst the weekend started off very windy our weekend roster wasn’t calm either. We just got to bed on Friday night for a whole 20 minutes sleep before being woke up for our first job . The strong winds caused several vessels to drag anchor. Saturday morning was a bit more calm on the weather front. Still an early start to the day at least we saw a beautiful sunrise. Another busy day with breakdowns and groundings including a successful recovery of a 70 foot Yacht and its crew. With a dropping tide and a 3.5 metre draft this one was a challenge for our Green crew, however with our experienced crew and the distressed vessels crew a bit of strategic rope work and manoeuvring the vessel was successfully floated and underway to deeper waters for anchorage. After finally getting a fuel top up we crossed paths with a 2 metre black snake just having a swim in the beautiful warm Sunday weather.

What a busy weekend at MRQ Jacobs Well this weekend started off on Friday with a night run exercise with zero moonlight . Driving through the unlit channels. Testing our trainee skippers skills. Saturday morning had a beautiful sunrise before the big band of showers to start what was a busy day. We had everything over the weekend including a wedding photoshoot on our boat ramp. We had a ssss training event for some of our newest recruits. Then a members bbq for our new recruits to meet some of the other crew members. Throw in a few jobs and training for our experienced crews. Then a medical for our first responders and that was just Saturday .
On Sunday we took out RC11 for seaworthy testing whilst more training and jobs were done. The last job was completed and the crew returned to base at 6pm. Unfortunately that was not the end of it when a call was received for a vessel where the skipper was a bit disoriented and required assistance as had become lost and stuck on a sandbar. A crew was organised and dispatched to assist a late finish ensued. Thanks to all who assisted from Friday night giving up their family time for the entire weekend and to the members who responded to the late call in to assist the disorientated vessel. Keep an eye out for more pics from a really busy weekend of activities on and off the water. MRQ Jacob’s Well keeping our boating community safe on the water.

Some of our members were out and about in community providing the first aid for Jacob’s Well Paint the town country music festival. There may or may not have been a bit of dancing mixed in the marquee.

Also a big thankyou to Blue Crew members helping with the setup . Also a big thanks to Purple C for getting the Ute all loaded on Friday. Made it so much easier for Saturday morning.

Now I did warn you, there has been plenty of training happening which means, plenty of happy snaps. We have had plenty of community groups visit the base over the last couple of months as well as some schools. Obviously we won’t publish the school pics as we don’t have the consent forms. We will leave that to the schools to promote. Marine Rescue Jacobs Well loves being part of the community and we love getting a wave from you when we’re out on the water it is very much appreciated.

Remember before you launch log on it only takes 2 minutes but could save you a lifetime.

A training session was conducted at MRQJW by the Qld Fire Department. This program was primarily focused on training QFD firefighters and consisted of a presentation on marine cache deployment, vessel layout & familiarisation, communication processes, water pump and foam operations and life jacket use. The course was attended by 16 firefighters & supported by Alan Cocksedge, Darrin Jeffries, Allan Tosh & Davin Carlile from MRQ. Training focusing on MRQ volunteers will also be conducted in the quarter. " Apologies for delays in getting pics up on the page we have been having issues with the page. I think we are on top of it now so be prepared to receive photo bombs over the coming days. Last month I had the opportunity as a first responder to spend a day on the job with QAS Crew as part of the training regime. I received first hand on the job training which allows our first responders to give you the appropriate care whilst awaiting our wonderful paramedics attending on scene.

We are constantly training across all facets of our Marine Rescue Jacobs Well set-up. More photos to come
