Bond Investment Group Bond Investment Group is one of Australia’s pre-eminent student finance societies. We employ a number of methods to achieve our central vision.

Formed under the Bond University Business Students’ Association in early 2008, the Group has since evolved into a fully independent, student-run organisation that aims to improve the graduate outcomes of commerce and business students at Bond University. By hosting a number of seminars on finance, we hope to cater to advanced and intermediate students alike. We also host a number of networking eve

nts, serving as a facilitator between business and students. In addition, we host a Pitch Competition and release finance related publications.

Our final panelist Kate Jones! 🤩

Kate Jones has more than 20 years experience in senior government and leadership positions. Kate served as a Minister in the Queensland Government for more than eight years in a range of portfolios including State Development, Education, Tourism and Major Events and Innovation and Climate Change.

Kate was also the Minister for the Commonwealth Games working closely with key industry partners and all levels of government to successfully deliver Queensland’s largest ever event, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Kate is a Director on the Board of Paralympics Australia having been appointed in July 2022.

Kate has also served as a member of the Cabinet Budget Review Committee developing and implementing Queensland’s state budget and overarching economic strategy for the state. Kate has a Masters in Environmental Law (ANU) and a Bachelor of Arts, Journalism Major (QUT).

Throughout her career Kate has also served on a number of government and non-government boards at both a state and national level. Indeed, Kate was appointed to Commissioner of the Australian Rugby League and more recently, Executive Director on the Tech Council of Australia.

Meet our second panelist Stuart Giles! 🤩

Stuart Giles was the driving force behind the establishment of Australia’s largest comprehensive cancer care provider, Icon Group, and played a key role in achieving substantial international expansion across Asia. A pharmacist by background, Stuart and his wife & long term business partner, Cathie Reid AM, have owned and operated a network of Epic pharmacies around Australia for nearly 25 years.

He has served on the Board of Directors for the AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism, and he is a Founding Platinum sponsor of the Gallipoli Research Foundation. Stuart and Cathie launched the Epic Good Foundation in 2015 with significant partnerships including support for the Outside the Locker Room mental health program and working alongside the Hawthorn Football Club to deliver their Indigenous Program.

Stuart stepped down as Founding Chairman of Icon Group in late 2020 to focus on his family office and philanthropic investment initiatives. In July 2021 he was appointed the inaugural Founder in Residence of the Transformer program, providing mentoring to entrepreneurial students at Bond University.

Meet our first panelist Stephen! 🤩

Stephen was a Managing Director of Macquarie Group Limited, where he spent almost 24 years working in both its Asset Management and Investment Banking Groups globally, before leaving in July 2022 to establish his own independent and investment advisory firm, Arch Advisors (“Arch”).

Arch is an investment management consultant advising asset managers (and other financial services businesses) globally. Arch specialises in alternative assets and strategies, but also advising long only.

Stephen co-managed the Sass-Macquarie Financial Strategies Fund (“Finstrat”) - a New York based private equity fund that seeded 11 investment strategies. Stephen was a lead board director and investment committee member for Finstrat, as well as a director on the boards of the underlying asset managers he established, including Waterfall Asset Management, Ta**us Funds Management, AMERRA Capital, and Hightower Advisors.

Australian telecom giant, Optus informed Australia of how the personal information of up to 10 million customers was hacked, resulting in a forensic review to be completed by Deloitte. This is one of Australia’s largest anc most compromising breaches- including home addresses, drivers’ licenses and passport numbers. A few days later, Telstra also suffered a similar data breach sparking a push for the Governor-General to amend Australia’s privacy regulations and impose heavier fraud detection mechanisms.
