I write in relation to the Flood recovery Grant, as you are aware people who have lost everything, major damage, loss of life, the majority are covered by insurance and if not $1000 won't be of significant help and a mere unhelpful token gesture compared to their loss. I will outline this as briefly as possible.
1. Cyclone Alfred impacted mainly 8th and 9th March 2025.
2. Residence in my area of Logan immediately began their own clean up.
3. Your governments “assistance” became live for applications late on 12th March 2025.
4. Part of application questionnaire was did you lose Children’s play equipment, outside entertainment furniture and clothing.
5. I am sure most in my area would have qualified for this section.
6. I applied on the 12th March 2025, was declined on 13th March 2025.
7. It seems the majority of people affected despite qualifying under the outlined criteria are being declined.
The Jordan Rice foundation’s main focus is on Disaster resilience and the response from Governments and associated agencies, the response in regards to assistance is flawed and by design does not help the majority of affected, most don’t wait to clean up, most weight up Insurance excess V premium increases in areas already slammed by insurers price hikes from previous disasters.
I find it ludicrous that small claims for assistance can be declined without visitation of the affected properties. My suggestion is you either make it quite clear on the services Australia web site and delete most of the criteria you have outlined in eligibility guidelines in the said eligibility questionnaire instead of providing false hope to people in an already struggling and in an already vulnerable economy for pre-election popularity.
It certainly on the face of it having meet every single part of the eligible criteria as set out by the departments under your control that the only reason for the decline of my application can be a question of my honesty and integrity something I take great offence to. My personal view from interest is Governments both Federal and State responses is they haven’t leant a proactive thing and the exact same patterns continue, of risk assessment strategies and implementation by privatized agencies, the exposure created by the public requiring their help, the minimization of potential monetary loss to these corporations is continentally there for all to see buy the oration of politicians across media platforms to minimize the risk to these agencies. I write this to you not for me I know what to expect and do but on behalf of the many who don’t.
Bottom line the bureaucratic agencies under political control there is no help, after all the previous losses all you have done is learn how to protect yourselves and funnel funds to entities associated to you.
