Today on World Ocean Day, Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Club became the Gold Coast's very first Surf Club and restaurant to be named a Plastic Free Champion. The milestone celebrated with a small ceremony at the Club this morning hosted by our very own Brooke Hanson OAM.

Through the Boomerang Alliance Plastic Free Places program, we have been working hard on our sustainability journey to protect the beautiful ocean right on our doorstep. By eliminating single-use plastic packaging across our operations, we are keeping thousands of pieces of plastic out of our waste streams and oceans every single year.
Our amazing volunteer surf lifesavers joined the movement this season! By switching to reusable cups and refill water, our patrol teams alone saved over 2,000 pieces of plastic during the 2025/2026 season.
A special thank you to Boomerang Alliance Coordinator and Supporters Association Management Committee member, Katie Barton-Harvey for all the hard work on this project as well as the leadership shown by our Club CEO, Michael Sullivan and General Manager, Chris Kelly in delivering our year 1 Sustainability outcomes.
Every small change adds up to a massive impact. Thank you to our incredible community, staff, and members for helping us protect our oceans. Next time you drop in for a meal or a coffee, know that you're supporting a cleaner, greener Gold Coast
