Today on World Ocean Day, Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Club became the Gold Coast's very first Surf Club and restaurant to be named a Plastic Free Champion. The milestone celebrated with a small ceremony at the Club this morning hosted by our very own Brooke Hanson OAM.

Through the Boomerang Alliance Plastic Free Places program, we have been working hard on our sustainability journey to protect the beautiful ocean right on our doorstep. By eliminating single-use plastic packaging across our operations, we are keeping thousands of pieces of plastic out of our waste streams and oceans every single year.

Our amazing volunteer surf lifesavers joined the movement this season! By switching to reusable cups and refill water, our patrol teams alone saved over 2,000 pieces of plastic during the 2025/2026 season.

A special thank you to Boomerang Alliance Coordinator and Supporters Association Management Committee member, Katie Barton-Harvey for all the hard work on this project as well as the leadership shown by our Club CEO, Michael Sullivan and General Manager, Chris Kelly in delivering our year 1 Sustainability outcomes.

Every small change adds up to a massive impact. Thank you to our incredible community, staff, and members for helping us protect our oceans. Next time you drop in for a meal or a coffee, know that you're supporting a cleaner, greener Gold Coast

🏆HONOURING OUR INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES & GOLD MEDALLISTS 🏆

At our recent Currumbin SLSC Annual Awards Night, we proudly recognised and celebrated members who have achieved the highest sporting honours in Surf Life Saving through selection in Australian and New Zealand Open Teams, Pathways Teams and Youth Teams.

To wear your countries colours is a prestigious achievement and a reflection of the dedication, commitment and countless hours of hard work these athletes have invested into their sport and our Club. We congratulate all members selected to represent Australia and New Zealand (and Germany) and thank them for being outstanding ambassadors for the Mighty Vikings both on and off the beach.

The evening also celebrated our Australian Gold Medallists from the 2025/26 season, with one of the special traditions of the night being the Guard of Honour. Formed by past and present Australian Gold Medallists of our Club, the Guard of Honour recognises those members who have achieved the pinnacle success of winning Australian Championship Gold.

A highlight of the evening was acknowledging Elizabeth “EJ” Forsyth and her incredible achievement of winning her 7th Australian Gold Medal in Beach Flags. As the undisputed “Queen of the Beach” at Currumbin Beach Vikings, EJ continues to inspire our entire Club community through her resilience, professionalism and relentless pursuit of excellence. Since claiming her first Australian title in 2018, EJ has consistently set the benchmark for success and sportsmanship, cementing her place as one of the Club’s all-time great athletes.

Congratulations to all of our 2025/26 Australian Gold Medallists and International Team Representatives. Your achievements make the entire Vikings family incredibly proud. 💚🤍
