Terry has been battling breast cancer for half her life. Initially diagnosed in her forties, Terry now relies on the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Patient Transport service every week to help her receive the vital treatments she needs to keep fighting.

“Everyone who relies on this service is incredibly grateful. I genuinely can’t imagine what would happen to people, including me, if this service didn’t exist.”

Terry knows first-hand the impact cancer can have, not just on the patient, but on the family and friends around them, especially when frequent travel for treatment becomes a significant demand.

This National Volunteers Week, we celebrate the incredible community of people who selflessly give their time to support us.

From our dedicated market stall volunteers and the talented people constantly creating handmade goods, to those who step in to support for our events, major fundraisers and corporate initiatives, thank you. Every contribution plays a massive role in the work we do.

Whether it’s a few hours here and there or an ongoing commitment, your generosity helps us continue supporting those in critical need across the Gold Coast.

The work you do does not go unnoticed, and we are all deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and graciousness you bring to our work.

Thank you for being an integral part of our everyday, and a big reason why we can achieve as much as we do. 🧡

We’re incredibly grateful to the Brightwell Trust, a charitable fund administered by the Rotary Club of Mermaid Beach, whose generous donation through the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation has funded a new MESI ABPI machine for the Occupational Therapy Vascular and Lymphoedema outpatient service at Robina Health Precinct.

This machine is fully automated and allows fast and effective measurement to assess a patient for Peripheral Arterial Disease (narrowing of the arteries restricting blood flow.) Many patients experience no symptoms and are therefore unaware they have an issue. This measurement is used as a guide by our therapists for the safe application of compression to the lower limbs.

Gold Coast Health’s Occupational Therapy Vascular and Lymphoedema outpatient’s service has said the MESI ABPI machine has been a game changer, allowing the team to streamline their intervention and most importantly ensures the safety of our patients when applying compression garments.

Donor support like this helps ensure patients receive safe and effective care when and where they need it most. 🧡

Thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport, a brand new multi‑gym has been funded for the Physiotherapy Department at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Physical rehabilitation plays a vital role in recovery, helping patients rebuild strength, mobility and confidence after critical illness or injury. This equipment features four individual weight stacks, allowing several patients to rehabilitate safely at once. The team is extremely grateful, and this equipment will be used daily to enhance patient recovery.

Community support like this helps ensure patients have access to the best possible health care when it matters most. 🧡

OUR BIGGEST GIVING DAY EVER! 🧡

Together, we did it for those in critical need.

To everyone who donated, showed up, shared, and supported us this year – thank you! Because of you, we’ve raised over a quarter of a million dollars to support patients and families across our community. That’s over $250,000 for those who need us most.

From whip cracking and ice cream to market stalls, games and plenty of laughs, there was fun happening everywhere you turned. With 102.9 Hot Tomato broadcasting live from Gold Coast University Hospital, a buzzing live telethon at both GCUH and Robina Hospital, and special visits from Betty Get Better and Humphrey B. Bear, the day was full of energy, connection, and community spirit. Everything a Giving Day should be – and it is all thanks to everyone who got involved.

Behind the scenes, over 100 volunteers kept the day moving, turning moments of generosity into real impact.

Every dollar raised will help ensure our community has access to the best possible health care when it is needed most.

This is what true community looks like. This is what showing up for each other looks like. And this is the difference it makes.

Thank you for being part of Giving Day 2026, helping patients through their toughest moments and improving health outcomes for when it truly counts.

A heartfelt thank you to the businesses, community partners, health staff and everyone who helped make Giving Day possible:

Unfortunately, a health crisis can happen to anyone, at any time.

For Noah, what started as a mosquito bite led to two emergency airlifts and a critical fight to save his leg and his life.

Donations are currently being doubled, meaning your support will have twice the impact for when it matters most.

Funds raised will help children, adults and families with cancer patient transport, vital medical equipment. emergency accommodation and life-changing research programs.

On Saturday evening, we were honoured to be part of Club Musgrave’s International Women’s Day fundraising dinner, where they generously selected Gold Coast Hospital Foundation as their charity partner for the night. 🧡

The event brought together an inspiring community of women dedicated to creating positive change. As we mark International Women’s Day, we celebrate the remarkable women who impact our every day — the women within our Foundation team, the dedicated nurses, doctors, and health teams supporting our community, and all the patients and families whose strength inspires our mission.

Our heartfelt thanks to Club Musgrave, MC Susan (Suki) Mead, and everyone whose generosity made the evening so meaningful.

Moments like this are why we do what we do 🧡

Betty Get Better visited Children’s Outpatients recently with a very special surprise — annual passes to Dreamworld for one of our young cancer warriors and his family.

Thank you to our incredible friends at for making this possible, helping us bring joy and a little magic to families who need it most 🎢⭐️

Merry Christmas Eve! 🧡🎄

Last week, we had a magical visit from Santa in Henry’s Corner — a beautiful play space in the Children’s Inpatient Unit at GCUH. This space is dedicated to the memory of Henry Darvell, who lost his life in a battle with cancer in 2023.

The Darvell family & the giving community generously donated this space, and it continues to be a haven for positivity and hope for children in hospital, especially during Christmas.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated toys, made donations, and helped make moments like this possible. It cannot be overstated how much it means for children facing their toughest moments.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We’re so proud to support this incredible community in making health care the best it can possibly be, including bringing patients moments of magic like this.
