Gold Coast Hospital Foundation is the official charity of Gold Coast Health. With community support, the Foundation raises money for the relief of poverty and distress caused by illness and disease. Gold Coast Hospital Foundation is a not for profit community based organisation incorporated pursuant to an Act of Parliament proclaimed by the Minister for Health in 1994. The Foundation receives no government subsidy and exists to add value to help patients receive care and services that assist in the more effective treatment of their disease and illness. The Foundation aims to add value to what would otherwise be achievable by hospitals and government budgets,.

A big thank you to JA Davey and Chempro Chemists for donating 500 Welcare digital thermometers to the Cancer and Blood Disorders Outpatient Unit at GCUH.

What a month. What a community. 🧡🩵
 
As we reflect on Scrub Up September 2026, we’re incredibly grateful for the support shown by our community.
 
Throughout the month, we watched shopfronts fill with heart tokens, businesses decorate their workplaces, volunteers give their time, families share their stories, health teams champion the campaign, and people across the Gold Coast get behind our local health teams, patients and their families. 
 
To our partners, supporters, volunteers, donors, fundraisers and everyone who purchased a heart token, thank you.

Together, you’ve helped shine a light on the people who show up for our loved ones every day, while helping support the equipment, services and resources they rely on to care for patients and families facing the unimaginable.
 
Most importantly, you’ve reminded our local health teams that their community sees them, values them and appreciates everything they do.

This week, we were honoured to welcome the Reid family to the NICU courtyard to see the memorial bench they dedicated in loving memory of their son, Ollie. 🧡

Dedicated to Ollie’s memory, the bench provides a peaceful place for reflection, connection and comfort for families spending time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

We are incredibly proud to support and help bring meaningful projects like this to life, creating spaces that honour loved ones while supporting families during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Thank you to Dana, Matt, River and Maggie for sharing Ollie’s legacy in such a meaningful way. Through their generosity, this special space will continue to bring comfort to families for years to come. 🫶🏼

This week, we celebrated the recipients of the 2026 Health Staff Scholarships presented by SurePark, supporting Gold Coast Health staff pursuing further study, training and professional development.

We’re incredibly proud to support these recipients as they continue growing their skills, knowledge and expertise for the benefit of local patients and families.

A heartfelt thank you to SurePark for making these scholarships possible, and to Darren and Nick for joining us from Melbourne to present the awards in person.

Terry has been battling breast cancer for half her life. Initially diagnosed in her forties, Terry now relies on the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Patient Transport service every week to help her receive the vital treatments she needs to keep fighting.

“Everyone who relies on this service is incredibly grateful. I genuinely can’t imagine what would happen to people, including me, if this service didn’t exist.”

Terry knows first-hand the impact cancer can have, not just on the patient, but on the family and friends around them, especially when frequent travel for treatment becomes a significant demand.
