2026 REPORT
We want to share with you this note from Lorena Gomez, convenor, worker and chief motivator of Padrinos Presente Escuelas Rurales, Argentina. (Roughly “Patrons of Rural Schools”). There are a number of groups working under this banner. Lorena’s group, which we have been partnering with since 2015, works mainly in Santiago del Estero in the Central North mountain region and in Misiones, home of the Guarani people in the region bordering Brazil.
Milonga Para Los Niños (SPLN Inc), now in its 25th year, continues our mission supporting education, health and shelter for disadvantaged children, for the gift of Tango to us and the world.
After completing two significant student residential projects for country kids in Santiago del Estero and La Plata, we shifted focus for the past 2 years to supporting operations, after government cuts to welfare, together with extreme inflation, threatened the ongoing capacity to continue to operate essential services.
Because you, the Tango communities of Australia, are the backbone of MPLN, we would like to share with you this letter from Lorena, sent after a recent tour to Misiones, supporting Guarani families:
“We sent the truck on Monday to Misiones.
I'll send you photos shortly of everything we're able to do, thanks to your support.
I also want to share some images of how these families live, in conditions of extreme poverty and profound isolation, so you can learn a little more about the reality we try to support every day.
It's also very difficult for us to reach everyone and provide them with what they truly deserve, but we persevere with great commitment and, above all, with immense love for these communities.
That's why, Cheryl & John, I want to thank you so much. Your help means more than just food or supplies: it means support, dignity, and, especially for the children, the chance to feel remembered and loved.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there from so far away and for helping us ensure they, too, feel a little less alone”
