Kizuna Taiko

Kizuna Taiko For performance enquires, please contact us via email. We are a group of people with enthusiasm and interest in playing the Japanese Taiko Drum.

The Gold Coast’s Premier Taiko Group

We love to share our love and experience of playing Japanese Taiko through performances and workshops at a wide variety of community and corporate events. With no fixed level of experience, we genuinely gather to enjoy the company of other Taiko-lovers. Kizuna Taiko would like to thank the City of Gold Coast for the COVID-19 Community Recovery grant payment. T

his support has meant we have been able to cover our operating costs during this challenging time so that we could keep training and practising for future performances in our community.

We are very lucky to be invited to the Southport Lunar Festival each year. This year was the year of the fire horse 🔥🐴 and thanks to yesterday’s performance, we are already off to a cracking start. We performed four sets; it was also the first time we performed with all three of our newest members.

Thanks to everyone who came round to watch us, we loved seeing everyone and meeting those who were curious about the drums or the Japanese culture 🌸✨

We are next performing at Sunnybank on February 28- see you there! 🥳

We celebrated a very special moment with one of Kizuna’s founding members last week 🤩🇦🇺Naomichi Hirano OAM helped found Kizuna in 2008, and on Saturday, he received an Order of Australia Medal for his tireless contributions to the Japanese community in Queensland over the years. Amazing! ☀️

He is a very active member of the community and it’s always wonderful to see him at the Gold Coast’s multicultural events, working as a QPS liaison officer! Congratulations Hirano! 🥳 Your award is well deserved!

Former and current members of Kizuna helped celebrate his win, and of course, we brought a drum or two 😉

Some performances are particularly special 🥹✨ This performance for was one of them 🧡

Not only were we privileged to support such a worthy cause as a women-led band (we are possibly the only female-only taiko band in Australia as we don’t have any active male members at the moment), but we had multiple women come up to us after the performance telling us how touched they were. The power of the drums really resonated with them, and parallels their strength through adversity ✨ It was so moving to realise how much it impacted them 🤍

Thank you so much for having us 🥁🙇🏽‍♀️

Earlier this year we were delighted to perform at the Southport Library’s 23rd birthday and reopening after some renovations! The staff were lovely, the crowd was great (even in what is usually supposed to be a quiet zone! 😆) and they even shared cake with us. 🥳

Thank you for having us 🤩🧡 We hope to be there for your next celebration 🎉
