Vale PD Hondo

PD Hondo 339 was born 23/07/2012. Hondo was one of two from the H litter that was successful for selection for police dog training. His father was Onyx, a fearsome SERT Dog with which he shared a number of his traits.

Hondo was teamed up with then Senior Constable Nick DONALD and the two commenced training in Jan 2014 on Police Dog Course 153. After successful completion of course Nick and Hondo were deployed to the Gold Coast District. Nick describes Hondo as an excellent all rounder and he was well regarded within the squad for his abilities, reliability and desire to work. The team located hundreds of offenders over his career. Although he was hard worker, he was very placid at home often lying at the back door or poolside with the DONALD family hanging out with his best mate Harvey the sausage dog. Hondo loved going to the beach for some exercise and chasing a rubber kong on a rope.

Hondo officially retired in January 2021 after PD Shredder took over his watch. He remained with the DONALD family till July 2022 but missed going to work.

Hondo was rehomed with the Steel family where he instantly became a much loved member of the family....accustomed to scotch finger biscuits, air conditioning and being spoilt rotten as he slipped further into retirement. Hondo was healthy, happy and loved being the centre of attention. He was often found walking around with a rubber toy cactus. He was a remarkable dog with a remarkable personality and will be missed by both the DONALD and STEEL family .

BPA was formed in honour of Hondos service.

Vale Police Dog Tusk

It is with great sadness we report that PD Tusk from the Brisbane District passed away with his handler and family on the 4th November surrounded by love and the people he loved the most, he was 11 years old.
Tusk spent a hour and a half being driven around in the Dog Squad car which he loved with his handler Senior Constable Phil COWLING, of the Brisbane Dog Squad. The vet put him to sleep on the tail gate of the squad car which was a fitting farewell.

As a pioneer in Blood Detection, Tusk leaves behind a legacy that will be hard to fill, not only in the police service but also in the hearts of those he served alongside.

PD Tusk will be truly missed but never forgotten.

Vale Police Dog Bravo

It is with great sadness we report that PD Bravo from the Gold Coast District passed away with his handler and family on the 8th of October surrounded by love and the people he loved the most, he was 11 years old.

PD Bravo worked in the Gold Coast District with his partner, Senior Constable Joe ‘Big Joe’ Alofipo from March 2015 until April 2023. During that time, Big Joe and PD Bravo were responsible for an extraordinary amount of apprehensions and a dominant force at every job and training session they attended.

During work, PD Bravo was feared by all, but at home and in retirement, he was a much loved and spoilt member of the Alofipo family.

To witness PD Bravo’s ability to switch between work mode and family member was truly remarkable and a testament to the work and love provide by Big Joe and his family. PD Bravo passed surrounded by the family that he loved and protected.

It was an absolute privilege to watch Bravo receive one of the Inaugural Queensland Police Service Dog Squad Canine Service Medallions in Brisbane in July.

PD Bravo will be truly missed but never forgotten.
