I love reading stories like this about trees. This tree was originally planted in Main Street, Buderim by Dame Quentin Bryce. The tree was planted to "formerly launch" the Buderim Foundation in 2004. The Buderim Foundation is a non for profit organisation designed to support the Buderim community via grants. Sunshine Coast Council moved the tree to the Buderim Lions Lookout on Burnett Street in 2015. The tree still stands their today.
THE FOUNDATION TREE AT BUDERIM LIONS PARK π³
Did you know that, on 6 April 2004, Dame Quentin Bryce, AC, CVO, formally launched the Buderim Foundation and planted the 'Foundation Tree' in Main Street?
This commemorative tree was moved to the Lions Park in Burnett Street in 2015 and still stands today! ππΌ
Scientifically, the Foundation Tree is labelled a 'Podocarpus Elatus,' but it is commonly known as an Illawarra Plum, Plum Pine, or Brown Pine. Despite its name, this tree is not a plum species but rather a conifer which is an ancient family of trees that produce woody seed cones with fruits attached. It is a spectacular rainforest tree that is native to NSW and Queensland and truly prized within the Buderim community.
If haven't visited Buderim Lions Park and marvelled beneath the foliage of this beautiful decades-old tree, why not take a stroll there this weekend π
Located on Burnett Street, the park was originally created by the Buderim Lions Club, but has been heavily reworked from the original travellerβs-rest style car park that it once was. It now offers spectacular south-facing views of the Sunshine Coast and the hinterland and is the perfect place to have a picnic, a play with the kids or a simple a break from the business of town. Benches offer a great spot to have morning tea or lunch while you watch the big ships go to and from the busy Port of Brisbane.
Like this post if you're fan of the trees, parks and special places that make Buderim and our community so unique πππ
